Why do people still drive cars even though the air was better before they were made? Because that's the world we live in. Just because something is bad doesn't mean it isn't practically required in the modern world. Have you tried doing things without internet in the past 10 years? Even something like a bank will commonly tell you "we don't do that here. Go online and do it". It's slightly infuriating, but it is what it is. The world lives on the internet now.

Them getting off also doesn't change anything. Everyone else is still using it.

Some worry that they will lose the last threat of normal communication even if it's from an undesirable place like the internet. Stopping can also be very difficult for those born into it especially if you have been using it for 10+ years kind of like if a morbidly obese person has to start eating healthily and exercising if they've eaten junk for the same amount of time and done the minimum physically. Or like someone is addicted to very seductive drugs and is told they have to stop.
