Discontinued in 2022, the Apple music device is making a comeback with younger generations who are craving a break from the distraction of internet-based phone apps with a product from a time that felt more hopeful:

• Searches for the iPod and iPod Nano jumped in 2025, per Google Trends.
• According to Axios, searches for the Classic and Nano were up 25% and 20%, respectively, between January and October of 2025 compared to the same time in 2024.
• Since 2022, total sales of refurbished iPods are up an average of 15.6% per year,

I had an iPod nano that I listened to during my 45-minute train ride to and from work when I worked in NYC, several years ago. It disappeared during my move from NYC.

I think people are tired of not being able to play their huge collections of mp3s on the iPhone because Apple is forcing you to use Apple Music. If Microsoft came out with a new version of an mp3 player it would sell like crazy. Unfortunately, Microsoft would not do this correctly, so it would be a bust. Apple would do a great job with a new iPod, but they want to force you to use Apple Music. Samsung would also do a great mp3 player, but their flagship phones play mp3 files, so they don't need a standalone gadget.

I use a Sandisk MP3 player. It is small and wearable. It holds a ton of files and also gets FM radio.
