Well, in any case humanity is actually a threat to the earth ! Thus, if some programmer did implement a particular algorithm in order to protect the earth's life, oddly enough, plain logic might indeed lead AI to advice the elimination of humanity...

This reminds me of a comic book where an entity designed to terminate suffering starts to eliminate all life in its reach because: life = suffering, and thus to alleviate suffering --> elimate life... Logic, isn't it :0/
