Maybe observing is a better word than celebrating because... I'm not sure... maybe it is mixed... some got between lives... some were tricked into coming it seems...

Or maybe they celebrate because it not longer exists... I'm not sure who instituted the holiday... but it is a holiday and educational day.

I guess... arriving to various countries outside India, safely and building up live there.. they came as indentured laborers, maybe seeking a better life

Not sure if it had anything to do with the bloody British rulers at the time (no offense to Brits, just to their rulers at the time of the events I'm referring to)
