Is it sad /weird to spend my birthday in another country in a hotel?

I spent at least one birthday in China and many in Pennsylvania cause my parents could not afford babysitters and we only had one grandma in North America so my dad would drive me to my cousin’s place 3 months every summer to be cared for by our grandma and our stay at home aunt. I only got a special celebration on my 16th. The other birthday’s I’m not sure I even got a birthday cake.
