What do you think of this list of MOST LIVABLE CITIES?

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) latest survey, the Global Livability Index for 2023, here are the 11 most livable cities in the world:

1. Vienna, Austria
2. Copenhagen, Denmark
3. Melbourne, Australia
4. Sydney, Australia
5. Vancouver, Canada
6. Zurich, Switzerland
7. Calgary, Canada
8. Geneva, Switzerland
9. Toronto, Canada
10. Osaka, Japan and Auckland, New Zealand (tie)

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with this list? What other city (ies) would you put in the top 10?

Where is Utrecht? Everybody always talks about Amsterdam, but Utrecht is probably the best city to live in here in the Netherlands. The most cyclable city in the world (not just because it is safe and well supported, but also because the environment is pleasant to be in... aka pretty), which automatically makes it very liveable, and it does not make the list of liveable cities. The judging system used and the way they selected cities make the list a pretty poor representation of real life. Even if it had the correct placements.

I disagree because there were only around 110 cities studied in the survey and the 3 cities chosen in each country were chosen arbitrarily and not by honest comparative analysis. I think there are dozens of cities in Ontario better than Toronto and in the entire country there are probably hundreds or thousands that would be more livable.

All of these cities maybe except Vienna, are very expensive.

I visited Vienna. It has nice historical landmarks like Schonbrunn Palace, but there are also neighbourhood I wouldn't like to live in. Neighbourhoods that have a lot of immigrants (mostly Muslim ones) and are quite dangerous. I slept close to one of such neighbourhoods and let's say I didn't feel 100% safe. There are better cities in my country than Vienna ino. Especially more safe.

The article cited states that "Vienna topped the list due to its 'exemplary education and health services.” Austria has universal healthcare, so I assume that there is a strong political bias in the rankings. The article says that each city was scored on five primary categories and none of them include individual liberties and freedoms.

Does disagreement with the US make them bad?

I don't think that having universal healthcare is a "sociopolitical bias" but NOT having it certainly is as it is a feature of predatory capitalism in exactly one country.

Melbourne, Australia is third? Ahahaha! :D Surely they jest! I've actually BEEN there, and let me tell you, it is a shithole run by a moronic socialist dictator named Daniel Andrews. You wouldn't catch me DEAD there! That city is an absolute sewer, it literally stinks, and there are beggars everywhere! It was also THE most locked-down city in the entire world, for the longest time. A person would have had more freedom in Pyongyang, North Korea.

Canada and Australia are SO MUCH nicer than the US. No shootings, no homelessness, no mentally ill politicians, easily available health care if needed

Does affordability factor in at all? Zurich and Tokyo are certainly not cheap. I would really have to look at their measuring criteria, or if they are measuring cities proper or greater metropolitan areas.

Those are all very pleasant cities. been to many of them and they all have a similar feeling in a way. Surprising no us cities made the top 10.

I have been to Austria and Canada. Not a fan of Vancouver. Couldn't tell you about individual cities but Austria is an amazing place and I'll guess Switzerland is pretty similiar.

@ArrowheadSW Just there a couple of weeks ago. Loved the Island and coast of BC. The ski hills are awesome too. I could live there, easily. I doubt I would live directly in the City, lots of great mountainside/oceanside communities just 15 to 20 minutes out.
