Trending & News If you have been here, what did you think?
Several things come to mind.
1. I believe people there are taller than average.
2. Windmills
3. Amsterdam - and I will leave it at that.
4. Rotterdam and New York (*)
5. Roses
6. Just missed visiting.
7. Elsevier
8. Computer scientist Andrew S. Tanenbaum
9. The Hague where the International Courts are.
10. Delft University of Technology
(*) I am from the state of New York. New York was originally "New Netherlands"; it was founded by the Dutch, not the English. Place names in New York - especially throughout the Hudson River and Mohawk River valleys have Dutch names. New York City was originally "New Amsterdam" until the English took over in 1664. In particular, New York's "Capital District" (the city of Albany and the surrounding metropolitan area) where I lived for 30 years has many places with Dutch names. For instance, I lived very close to Amsterdam and Rotterdam NY and used to live in Rensselaer County.
@exitseven Excellent. What was the title of the book?
Did you know he is also interested in elections?
He founded this website about 20 years ago.

I think of the excellent engineering projects The Netherlands has done over the years, to claim land from the sea via a superb system of dykes.
I also think of Andre Rieu and his orchestra, excellent music, from Maastricht.
Finally, I think of bicycles. The Netherlands is known for the best infrastructure for bicycles in the world, not just dedicated bicycle lanes, but also bicycle parking garages in major cities.
Correct
Black Pete
Bicycles
Amsterdam
Tulips
And no, I've never been to the Netherlands.
My mother.
Oh you're of Dutch ancestry?

Blonde Dutch girls, wooden shoes, windmills, red light district, people shooting heroin in the park, dikes, Amsterdam, Anne Frank, bicycles everywhere, tulips, flowers, nice people, speed skaters, canals, canal boats, blue skies, sunshine and golden fields.
Thank you 🥰
Pella, Iowa We have a town in my country, in my state, that was founded by immigrants from the Netherlands back in 1847. Many of the settlers descendents still reside there and carry on many of thier Dutch traditions. The Pella Tulip festival receives visitors from all across the midwest.
Fascinating.
And do not forget we founded present-day New York.
Yeah, "New Amersterdam". But I'm from the Midwest. Pella's just near to my heart. I've actually only been to one Tulip festival. But since I pass through there everytime I go fishing at lake Red Rock and it's weird to see it go from it's usually sleepy little town to swelling with thousands of visitors at Tulip time.
Cheese, alchohol, windmills lots of windmills, old school toy workshops, old world architecture. The great dutch masters such as Rembrandt Van Rijn, Vincent van Gogh, Johannes Vermeer and of course Jan van Huysum
I quite enjoy old world Netherlands style architecture.
Sadly I have not been to the Netherlands though I wouldn't mind visiting it especially for the opportunity to see the dutch masters artwork up close being that I am also a painter of the dutch master style.
Cardinal Willem Eijk, a possible contender to succeed Pope Francis.
Other than that though, it seems like a lovely place that I would be interested to visit.
Come on over sometime

Have never been abroad... but I've herd in a video by someone who lives there that weed is legal or super common in the cafeteria/cafe or coffee shop so that comes to my mind when i hear bout Netherlands
I was just there last month, for the fourth time. The canals in Amsterdam are the number one thing that comes to mind. I also still have some relatives there.
Drugs, drugs and more drugs. Everyone in Amsterdam walks around smoking weed. And the gov't lets them ride bikes while off their tits on the stuff. I nearly got taken out by drug-addled cyclists trying to cross the road in Amsterdam.
Simples...
Haven't been there. However I think of tall people who are also really friendly. And as a fan of history, I think about the Dutch Resistance in WW2.
