How do I ask for a beer?

Question

After an all-night bender, I've woken up in a foreign country and I'm thinking how the fuck did I get here. I've got a banging hangover and need the hair of a dog to put me straight.

The problem is I don't speak a word of the language. I've tried speaking English very loudly and slowly in a range of foreign accents but it's not working.

All I want is a beer, I've no idea where I am, I could be in your country. So tell me how do I ask for a beer in your native language?

May I have a beer please? Ga i gwrw plîs?

In many languages, if you pronounce BEER, and make a drinking motion with a bent elbow, they may get the idea. They may bring you water, and if they do, just shake your head and do the bent elbow motion again.

FYI, I've done a lot of traveling to foreign countries, and I've always tried to learn at least some of their language, and asking for a beer is one thing I always try to learn. I can ask for a beer in, let me see, in at least 5 different languages.

Maybe you should just make sure I'm with you when you wake up and want that beer. 😎

- Flemish, Dutch, German: bier
- in Flemish you may try: "een pintje alstublieft"
- French: bière
- In French you also try: "une pression s'il vous plaît"
- Spanish: birra
- Croatian, Serbian, Russian: pivo
- Polish: piwo
- Bulgarian: bira
- Swedish: öl
- English: beer (you may try "pale ale", or "a pint" ;0)
- Briton: korev
