I absolutely love nature.
And I am grateful to dwell in a state with lots of wilderness and natural beauty. Spectacular coastline too.
I take the opportunity to travel abroad as well.

I love being in nature when I have no other responsibilities. Sadly, that isn't very often these days. But when I have work that needs to get done, I appreciate being indoors, with Internet and heat/AC and a comfortable place to work.

Three years ago, California had some huge - and frankly long over-due wild-fires that burned up a LOT of state parks - especially the forested ones - and while the big redwood trees will mostly survive and eventually recover, very little else did. My favorite park lost 100 years of investments (buildings, campgrounds, bridges, trail markers, fences, etc.) in just a few days of fire, and it's more-or-less the same story for most of the other places that I most liked to visit. These places have all been closed since the fire, and it will be years before many re-open - and this has made it nearly impossible to get into the few places that remain open, even during the week in the off-season. Forget about the weekends.

I definitely miss spending more time in the forests.
We had a couple years of really bad fires. I nearly drove through one, actually pulled over and took some pictures of the helicopters dropping the fire retardant on it to try and keep it away from the highway. 3 years later I drove by that same spot and the entire forest was leveled. Entire mountains blackened. I know it will recover, but damn. Actually seeing the result of wildfires really puts the fear of God in you.
@DarkWinterNights The big problem is that such fires are naturally a fairly frequent occurrence - every 5-10 years would be normal - and it clears out the brush and releases the redwood seeds from their pinecones. But because these forests are "protected" now, there hadn't been a fire in over 100 years, because they are put out. That leaves a ton more fuel - small trees and brush - that causes the fires to burn much hotter and it kills the cedar and other trees that normally live among the redwoods. Redwoods are actually very resistant to fire, but even they will burn if there is enough fuel and the fire burns very hot for a long time. As such, a lot more damage than usual happened. And this happened all over the state.
I’m a big bass fisherman, and my favorite thing is finding ponds that aren’t just drive-up. I walked MILES through a state forest to fish these hard-to-reach ponds, and it was SO satisfying to go somewhere that almost never gets hit.
But I love being out in the woods and being the only human for miles. It’s creepy at times too, especially if I stay too long and it gets dark. There was an abandoned Boy Scout camp I passed through that gave me the willies😱 I played hockey with a cop from that town and mentioned fishing there, and he got all serious and was like “yo, you know about that place, right?” I said no, and he goes “people just straight up disappear from there…” So I don’t know if I’ll be fishing there anymore, I’ll just call that place conquered and not get eaten by some cannibal cult, lmao.
But yeah, other than that, I love being out in the wilderness, rain or shine. I can stay out there all day.
I love to take walks in nature, going out barefoot in nature feels so magical, and I've recently had the itch to try Kayaking, but I have no one to go with :/
I enjoy the outdoor but I’m not a fan of rodents, reptiles, and bugs, but I’ll do anything outside. I’ll skip extreme winter activities.

Yes, I like to spend a lot of time outside. I like to hike and walking on the beach is one of my favorite things to do, even in winter. I bought snowshoes a few years ago and like to go cross country skiing.
Yes I love being outside, beach, hikes, walks, just sunbathing by the pool or in the back yard. Love it
I am. But in moderation. I also like staying inside and minding my business.
