Do you take photographs as a hobby or a living?

Here are some cool ones I've seen from various sources that are mostly astronomy related.

I have taken hundreds of photos, especially while on vacations. They served to record memories.

My wife was a professional photographer for years. She did portraits and weddings and even worked on some celebrity photo shoots in Hollywood. But she also does artistic stuff.

Some time after we were married, she learned Photoshop and did some amazing things with that.

When we went on vacations, while I was taking postcard photos of an entire building, for example, I noticed that she would take a lot of close up shots of fine details with interesting lighting and details. Some of her photos were like fine art.
Like, if my impulse was to photograph an entire statue, she might focus on just part of the face from a certain angle.

So she taught me more about the art of photography and I started looking through the lens differently.

She still does a bit of professional photography, some portraits and some Photoshop jobs. She sells some of her art, too.

My BS degree is in Graphics and Visual Design. We had to have several courses in BW photo, Color photo, Slide (reversal) photo, Slide Presentation, in addition to Workshop skills (wood, lathe, brazing, plastic "vacuum-forming", etc). plus core curriculum. I've shot weddings, studio work for mailers/ catalog sheets (as well as the assembly of the sheets themselves [before computer photo-comp]) , and some free work for NPO's. Of course I am now the designated shutterbug for the family. Fortunately, my daughters are both excellent photographers in their own right, one as an outshoot to her Engineering Degree for doing shoots for her Home Schooling website, and the other as a part of her Graphic Design degree, doing work for several colleges and some paid work for NPO's.

I have a 35mm camera. I used to like to take black and white photos. I even had a darkroom in my basement and developed my own black and white photos.

Those are beautiful and fascinating photos. No I'm not much of an amateur photographer but I can see why people would be drawn to it as a hobby.

The caption for the next-to-last photo is incorrect. Earth does not orbit Jupiter. Both planets have their own independent orbits of the sun.

I was a professional videographer for 4 years, and I took pictures professionally as a side gig during that time, but I can't say that I did it for a living - most of the income was video work.

I didn't have any formal instruction, but since I was also the editor, I quickly learned how not to completely suck, which was mostly about angles and controlling the light. It's WAY easier to get things right in the first place than to spend hours trying to fix a mistake. Being the editor forces you to take responsibility for your camera work.

There's lots of fancy tricks that I don't know how to do, but I am very, very good at getting the basics right.

Never professionally, just recreationally. I got good at it using film.
I had a manual/match needle SLR. I preset ASA (off the label) and shutter speed (to stop motion. I used the match needle for brightness and depth of field.

A few memories. Lots of scenery and auto/motorcycle racing. Considering a NIKON ZFC or DF to get the same look and feel with a digital. 'spensive.
