One funny memory: in Tokyo, I proudly ordered in Japanese what I thought was “two beers.” The waiter smiled and brought… *two big plates of pears*. My pronunciation was awful. My friends still joke, “Care for a cold pear?” every time we toast on trips now 🍐🍺

Two memorable ones:
1. My entire family went down to Florida for 2 weeks that ended up being 4. While there, we went to this swimming hole called, Crystal Lake. The water in the lake was absolutely crystal clear all the way to the bottom at least 10' down but, somehow, it was fed by this filthy, disgusting tiny stream that wrapped partially around it and was only a few inched deep!
At the very bottom of the lake was a hole in the ground and, according to what we were told by the locals, one day, someone swam down into it to see where it went. They were never seen again. Divers went in to try to find them and they were never seen again!! More divers went in and they were never seen again so, they decided to cover the hole with a metal grate so no one else could go in.
2. While we were there, we also went to Disney world for a day. Not long after we got in, we bumped into cousins of ours that lived in Indiana, an 8 hour drive from our house!! Neither of us knew the other was going to be there!!
A funny story but, it wasn't during a vacation.
My band was asked to play at an all-day outdoor benefit concert for a friend of ours to help him raise money for his legal defense. The plan was that everyone was going to spend the night and sleep over in sleeping bags in this grove where we were playing. Seeing as how a creek ran right past the area and I easily catch a cold sleeping in damp areas, I had no intention of spending the night there and kept asking around for anyone that could ride me home at the end of the night. I don't drive and it was about an hour's drive from my house. These two girls gave me a ride and one of them was Jennifer Wertz who was about to help form the band, Rusted Root. And, her aunt used to host several local t. v. shows when I was a kid and I had a minor crush on her back then. But, I digress.
My bass player decided to bring her dog, Oink. Dogs love me! I think it's because they just KNOW that I'm someone they can have a lot of fun with. So, when we weren't on stage, Oink followed me around as I was exploring the area.
At the very edge of the creek bank, about 5' above the creek, there was a large tree growing sideways!! Apparently, when it was little, the wind pushed it over to almost make a bridge across the creek before it started growing upwards, again. It was really neat to be able to walk half way "up" the trunk of a 30 or 40 foot tall tree. Almost like they do in cartoons.
Well, a cluster of the roots had formed a kind of dam along the edge of the creek about 1/3 of the way across and it caught thousands of leaves that had flowed downstream towards it. If you didn't know any better, it looked like land that was covered with leaves. So, there I am about 20 feet along this tree trunk and Oink is on the shore barking at me like she wanted to follow me but couldn't. I kept trying to entice her to let her know it was safe for her to walk on the trunk, just like I did. I kept calling to her to come up to where I was. Rather than try to walk up the trunk, she chose to try to jump over to where I was from the shore down onto those leaves and run over to where I was but on land, instead of the trunk! She leapt off the shore, 5 feet down and into the leaves and went plunging into the creek!! I was laughing so hard I couldn't do a thing to help her but, she paddled her way to shore with no trouble. I just kept thinking what a surprise it must've been for her to find out the ground she was jumping onto wasn't ground at all!

Years ago, I was in Cuba drinking coffee with my cousin and the coffee maker told my cousin she wanted to buy his shoes since you can’t buy those types of shoes in Cuba. My cousin felt guilty for saying no, so we never drank at the coffee bar again.

Another funny thing was, my cousin and I were at the Martini bar in Jamaica and I told him I like Olives. The bar tender heard me and she wanted a tip so she prepared a bowl for me with nothing except olives inside. My cousin joked with me saying I looked like Su y a glutton with an outrageously large jar of olives in front of me and that he photographed me eating the large jar of Olives as a joke.
