She did not call for back up as is the normal procedure before entering and using her weapon. It turns out, that she went to the wrong apartment, one floor above her's. She thought she was at her apartment. Bottom line, she had no right to shoot someone who was not threatening her.

The only issue is: these types of events are now highly politicized (e. g., the "Smirking Kid" in the red Make America Great Again hat was smeared by the press while people like David Hogg are given a free pass -- David Hogg solicited Canadians to violate US electoral policy by asking that they a) make political donations to the Democrats and b) vote in US elections once told that political donations cannot be made from abroad). There are serious issues with violent gun crime in the United States, though the media portrayal is often skewed (depending on the context for which you speak). But that's just me.

The read I got from that story is: he was smeared because he wore a red hat with a Trump campaign slogan on it, nothing more.
