Ok so im interested to see peoples views on this statement, i saw a post on one of those snapchat storys about a group of woman who warned that white women wearing hoop earrings is cultural appropriation because it exploits black fashion, and like i see there point but i also think anyone should be able to wear hoop earrings if they want, like its just earrings i dunno, i feel like its taking it a little to far with the whole exploiting black fashion? Thoughts guys? Please, also if you have time you should read the article!

I think cultural appropriation is bullshit, period. If you think about it, like really think for a second EVERYONE does things that belongs to another culture, i love how people like to say that white people don't have a culture but thats because they're so USED to it, white people do have their own culture too, are you going to tell me white germans don't have their own culture? or white Irish and English people? but it seems like white culture is for EVERYONE whereas non-white culture is for everyone EXCEPT white people, thats what they're making it out to be, but thats pretty racist to me. No, that's bullshit. I think it's cultural appropriation if black people suggest that wearing big hoop earrings is something that they are only allowed to wear.

In ancient time many different people wears big hoop earrings. The first people who wear big hoop earrings where the Greek. But in the bible is also written that the Jewish who escape from Egypt wore hoop earrings. Golden ones, both men/boys and women/ girls. And both peoples aren't black.

So is you ask me, big hoop earrings can be worn by every one, men and women, black or white. The only thing I know about it, is that people say it has a relationship with slavery. And black people have been used as slaves. That true, but many white people where slaves too. That was normal in Europe in ancient times. Not everybody was free. And to mark these people, to be clear to who they belong, they were given big hoop earrings.

So what everybody says about hoop earrings and cultural appropriation doesn't make any sense. And doesn't stop me from wearing big hoop earrings. Because alltough I'm a man, I really love wearing big hoop earrings. And I will for many years.

It’s more of an issue when a white women wears bamboo earrings or door knockers NOT ALL hoop earrings but these type. Since the time (white people ) decided to segregate themselves and build ghettos/hoods black &latin style has always been judged and stereotyped. Wearing bamboo/door knocker type of earrings was equated to being “ghetto” “loud” and “ratchet”. Now that white famous women wear them (just like long designed acrylic nails & cornrows) it’s considered a fashion statement and innovative on them. The problem here is women of color , even today still get shamed and dismissed for wearing these or any look that hasn’t been popularized by white women. I’m not saying women of color need y’all permission to wear anything but recognize where it comes from, appreciate them for the style that people wanna make a trend out of and get rid of the hate/stereotyping of POC based off the way they look.
