God Help us all... this is the future, the people who are the most intelligent somehow manage to come across as no better than other lefties... A lot of people would have killed to get into Harvard, kids of all colour and these idiots somehow managed it and taKin the absolute piss
They are there to learn, graduate and hopefully get a respectable and good job for their academic brains... bloody jokes
Blacks want to celebrate what they over came by having their own graduation. The problem is it will done in a segregated way whether people want to acknowledge it or not why do a lot think jot one white person can understand what blacks went through. What being raped, abused, the victim of atemptrd murder, bullied constantly, thrown around from place to place because of the foster care system, being homeless etc. You think any white people that went through any of that and or other things on that line won't understand. You are wrong then. If you down vote this it means you agree with segregation and or you do not care about how bad any white person that has gone through any major traumatic situation or situations.
I wish there was a method to poll black people exclusively on this. I've already seen some of their responses and many of them don't like this anymore than white people do.
I wish even more that both conservatives and liberals could find common ground on the BEST way to handle race relations. People need to stop worry about being right, but instead figure out WHAT IS RIGHT. Sometimes figuring out what is right means you have to admit your are wrong. Admitting your wrong doesn't make you look weak. Being strong and wrong doesn't make you "cool" (but the media loves it!). It's about finding truth. It's 2017 and America is still blind to it.
I'm amazed at how many people think it's racist, it absolutely is not. It's not like this is the only graduation the black students are allowed to participate in. This is a great opportunity for the black student body to be recognized for their hard work.
I go to The University of Texas at Austin and am graduating later this month myself. UT has always had a black graduation and I think it's amazing.
Then every race should have their own graduation to be recognized for their hard work or they all should have had to graduate together. I believe in the later of the two. Segregation - the institutional separation of an ethnic, racial, religious, or other minority group from the dominant majority. With a black only graduation then coming up will be a Latin American graduation. Those are seperated from others so its segregation regardless of the reasoning.
@MysteriousDarkness This is what I told two other guys who also didn't get it: White people do not experience the struggles black people do. Whether you want to admit it or not, there are privileges white people experience on a daily basis that black people do not and it all comes to skin color. That is why a black graduation is so important. Despite all the odds and everything put in our way to derail our success we graduated. White people will never know what that feels like.
So if whites wanted a whites only graduation ceremony where only whites where allowed that would be okay? Of course it wouldn't be and you know that. Ergo if it is racist if one group does it is racist if another does it. Why do you think black students don't get recognized for their hard work when they graduate? Don't they get a diploma and do the exact same thing as every other student? Its segregation and its racism, you are saying that you need to treat blacks differently because of their race, how is that not racism?
White people don't experience the struggles that black people do? You mean poverty which their are more poor whites then their are poor blacks? Or racism? Like when some one claims that everything is just fucking dandy for white people, that they don't have to work for anything and everything is handed to them meanwhile we have multiple laws, LAWS, that discriminate based upon race i. e. hiring quotas which makes it easier for blacks to get hired then whites, quotas that make it easier for black students to get into colleges then whites, grants and scholarships that are specifically targeted towards blacks and minorities and women but not a single one for whites or males. You mean things like that? What you said is not only evidence of your own bigoted and racist views, its also evidence that you are completely ignorant to how the world works. We are more then welcome to insult and ridicule whites but can a white do the same to a black person? No. That's racism.
It was done in a segregated way. I guess any whites who have been raped, abused, been the victim of an attempted murder, neglect etc will not understand by your logic and others.
I think it's a very strategically driven move by Harvard to gain traction and attract more clients... besides Harvard isn't just a school, it's a privatized business. And with every business, profits is their number one goal, always... period
Very similar to how Feminist support women in hijab to clearly gain support...
And then they say the white people are racist. SO now who is the racist here? BS That is what sometimes when black people lsay white people are racist for one thing or the other, they forget thta in their own race there are also racists.
This is so American 🙄 This kind of nonsense wouldn't happen in the UK because we're still not treating our citizens like second class people. This is really unecessary. Don't get me wrong, it's not racist per say but it's definitely self segregation and I don't understand why they want to segregate themselves.
I think it's a slippery slope to start separating graduating classes by race, even if that ceremony is optional. I think if there was to be a specific party or gathering thrown by a diversity club or something post-commencement to celebrate black students, that would be awesome. However, I fully believe this should still be allowed. I just personally think it will polarize the different races on campus.
That sounds wildly preposterous for such a highly reputed university to be doing something like this. Any time you put one race on a pedestal for their achievements (over other races that have accomplished the same) solely based on their race, it's going to be considered racist and an act of segregation.
I hope they do a whites only graduation too then. Shit would hit the fan.
It's seriously outrageous that something like this is allowed, especially when it's allowed for one race but not another. That is racism, not the graduation itself, but the fact that all races aren't allowed the same thing just because of their race.
I have two ways of looking at this. The first way is that these kids see an opportunity to have a short, more family oriented graduation. Second way I see it is what the fuck? You segregate yourselves after your parents or grandparents went through hell to be seen as equal?
To me, this is stupid. I'm black, but I don't get it. Nothing wrong with an event for black graduates, but an all-black graduation? But hey, if you can graduate from Harvard you can do whatever the hell you want 😂😂😂
Would you be upset if white people decided to support and celebrate the achievement of hard working intelligent white people by holding a white graduation the was sanctioned by Harvard. It would be an opportunity for whites to feel good about their race. It would be an opportunity for the to come together in solidarity without any influence from other groups
So is segregating? Why make them separate? Because they are blacks in a top university? They have every right to graduate with their friends and family in the same day as everyone else
I've seen a white only prom, so what's your point? Separate graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of African Americans is not racist but obviously you wouldn't know the difference
@nojokecarmichael It's you who doesn't know the difference. As long as we celebrate skin colour, we'll always be different. Until we accept one another as being the same, there will always be racism. White, black, yellow or green, we're all the same. We all bleed the same. We all have money or family problems the same. Until our species learns to treat each other the same, there will always be racism.
That's the problem with people like you. You obviously don't get it, it doesn't matter if you play the we're all the same card. When you pretend like you don't see race supposedly (at least until something "offends" a non poc) you fail to recognize/ acknowledge the issues that people have been through and are still going because of their skin color. It's not that hard to understand

This is in no way a leftie principle. It's acting left but actually very conservative in it's behaviour.

As a black person, I'm not for these types of self-segregation that other black people do.

I'm not quite sure if it's racist, maybe a little I don't know but it's definitely segregation. I don't understand why this was done.
I mean if Harvard had a white only graduation they'd be an uproar and the press would have a feild day.
Why introduce this what was wrong with the way things were before?
And then they say the white people are racist. SO now who is the racist here? BS That is what sometimes when black people lsay white people are racist for one thing or the other, they forget thta in their own race there are also racists.

Our parents and grandparents couldn't be happier about this. But thanks.
To me, this is stupid. I'm black, but I don't get it. Nothing wrong with an event for black graduates, but an all-black graduation? But hey, if you can graduate from Harvard you can do whatever the hell you want 😂😂😂
Is there anything wrong with an event for white graduates?
Well, a black graduation is an event for black graduates so I don't really understand what you mean.
Would you be upset if white people decided to support and celebrate the achievement of hard working intelligent white people by holding a white graduation the was sanctioned by Harvard. It would be an opportunity for whites to feel good about their race. It would be an opportunity for the to come together in solidarity without any influence from other groups
@Elarra, I meant a party-type event where you invite family and friends. Not an actual graduation.
If a white only graduation ceremony was held, the same leftists that run Harvard would be appalled.
So is segregating? Why make them separate? Because they are blacks in a top university? They have every right to graduate with their friends and family in the same day as everyone else
Positive discrimination, but discrimination nevertheless. Can you imagine the outcry if it was a white only event? It is a disgrace.
I've seen a white only prom, so what's your point? Separate graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of African Americans is not racist but obviously you wouldn't know the difference

@nojokecarmichael I see, so discrimination is fine as long as it isn't directed at you?
Where they're doing is not discrimination
@nojokecarmichael I see, so white people can go, can they?
The ceremony is not meant for them so they can stay where they are
@nojokecarmichael Then let's see you cry when they have a white only event.
It's racist. Why can any race, but white have something like this, it's just wrong.
On the flip side, they are creating "white spaces" which they were against.
Fair enough.
I want a whites-only graduation to be the next event.
