At the most basic level, the allegation of racism has become the accusation de jour. In a populist age, such as that which the country is going through now - and not for the first time - feeling is more important than thinking. In that context the accusation of racism makes the accuser feel righteous and, inherently, discredits the accused.
After all, if the accused is a racist, then it may be presumed that anything else he or she has to say is similarly discredited. It then becomes a dogma. It spares the accuser the torture of having to actually think through a response to their opponent's positions, while providing the added emotional catharsis of assuming their own virtue.
The irony in all of this is that the increasingly wanton use of the accusation of racism is breaking down the consensus against racism. Coming out of the 60s and 70s the charge of racism was seen as a serious accusation and there was an almost universal consensus against it.
As Joseph Sobran wrote in the 1980s, he would get up and leave the room rather than listen to the kind of bigoted remarks that were made at his grandfather's table when Sobran was a boy. Now, however, the charges of racism is seen as simply as another attack in the arsenal of political debate and as such has lost much of the stigma that once attached to it.
That all said, to leave the issue there is to exonerate a President who does not deserve exoneration. It is not possible to know fully what is in Mr. Trump's heart of hearts, however, as President and therefore as Head of State he has aggressively and with malice aforethought rejected a basic rule of written and verbal communication.
Specifically, that it is not what a speaker or writer wants to say. It is, rather, what they want a reader or listener to hear.
In this, Mr. Trump has shown himself to be a poor leader and a poorer politician. He has forgotten what a far more effective President and astute politician, President Reagan, knew by instinct. Namely that an emollient personality and temperate words can go far is smoothing the rough edges of political debate and policy disputes.
This was captured brilliantly in a political cartoon dating back to the 80s. In the first panel, a pollster is shown asking a voter what he thinks of Reagan's policies. The voter's reply: #$@!
In the next panel, the same pollster is asking the same voter what he thinks of Reagan personally. The voter replies: "Oh great guy! Really like him. Friendly, affable."
Suffice to say, not for nothing was Reagan the second most effective President in the post-FDR era to get his legislative agenda through Congress. Behind only LBJ, who had the extra advantage of working with a Congress with huge Democrat majorities in both chambers. It also being relevant that Reagan reached - absent a crisis to spike his popularity - a 71% approval rating. This compared to Trump's 44% average.
Suffice to say, Reagan built an enduring consensus for his policy agenda. Mr. Trump, by contrast, has through reckless language and literal thoughtlessness, poured salt in the social wounds. Thus, in the context of the times, and because of his disregard for how others might perceive his language, he stands accused of racism.
For Mr. Trump - unlike Mr. Reagan - words are not meant to convey ideas. Rather they are mere confetti designed to shower the public in his moods of the moment. They are not measured, but are merely reckless - and inherently damaging.
Put in the context of a populist age, when the mood is less to think clearly than to feel good about oneself, Mr. Trump then stands accused of racism. His recent "tweet" about four Members of Congress "going back where they came from" being Exhibit A how he routinely loses control of his message.
In his "tweet" told the Members of Congress to go back where they came from - and then come back to show the country how to govern itself. That latter part of the "tweet" muddies the waters of the President's motives, but as predictably as the sunrise was lost in the moral exhibitionism to follow.
The President is a profoundly foolish and reckless man. He was given an important and fragile trust when he was elected and he has been careless with it. He has allowed his emotions to dominate his reason. His arrogance and ego to take precedent over the duties he took upon himself.
In this, then, Mr. Trump does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. He may be a racist - or more likely, a bigot. (The former is an ideology. It is highly unlikely that the President has thought matters through so clearly as to have an ideology.) He can - as with his prison reform legislation and support for Israel - make the case that he is not a bigot.
However, it matters not. He has brought disrepute upon himself. However, that matters less than the enormous damage that he has done to the tone of the country's social, cultural, legal and political debate.

I'm on the left-side myself and although I'm disagree with Trump's politics, I'm also disagree with the false accusations. He may be skeptical to mass immigration, wanting stricter immigration policies, stricter regulations when it comes to foreign politics and favor company owners - but that doesn't mean he's racist, sexist, homophobic, only pro-oligarchy or any of these things. It's all about the left- and the right-side being strongly disagree. Making the opposite side look bad would make people less willingly to vote at them and rather attract voters somewhere else.
Another reason why liberals accuse Trump is because of he's a vulnerable politician to attack. He's direct, honest about his own opinions and he doesn't care about being polite. He's not afraid of calling you out for what he perceives you as - something several people sees as offensive name calling. Therefor it's easily to accuse him for these things in addition to bullying. If a politician choose a more diplomatic and president like way to speak, calling them out for these things would be more difficult to do.
Donald Trump isn't like most presidents. He talks in layman's terms, are direct, use a simple vocabulary and says what he thinks. A regular politician may say having a stricter border control may be beneficial for the future, while Trump may directly say immigrants is a big problem. The difference is the wording. Trump gets the point straight forward that even new beginners in English can understand him. Any new styles and ways to present ideas will more easily get criticized.

Racist people tend to want to make everything about race rather than factual information… So when you hear some minority yelling you’re racist when talking about a language, nationalism, etc. that’s because they are so blatantly racist that they can only see issues through the lens or race. If you swap races and use something like food for example rather than language, it’s like someone talking about chicken, and then a racist pops out of the wood work and is like all black people eat fried chicken. That is what they are doing, they can’t just talk about food or language or nationality it has to be seen through a racial lens because they are racist themselves.

Trevor Noah apologised for that comment and wasn't intentionally offensive. And he just started his career when he said that, as somebody who writes their own content, I understand that when you write comedic material for the first time, you may not consider offence your material may cause, you're just hyped that you're writing it and people are going to read it.

There's a difference between one's intention and how it's perceived. I know Trump and many of his supporters are not racist but they way Trump says it and how his supporters react is how it can be perceived as racism. If some throw packages at people that look like bombs to scare them as a prank, it can be seen as terrorism even if I wasn't their intention, so doing bomb or any terrorism pranks are still wrong and they can still be faced with legal trouble for doing that regardless of their intention. It's the way how people view and perceive what he says and does which is how he gets labeled regardless of his intention.

Democratic parties are a disease every where worldwide , the most shitty party in my country is the democratic party , and it's similar to the one in united states, they are a bunch of corrupt politicians who are opposing their country and are funded by external agenda.
Well to be honest yes the Democrats here have corruption, but Republicans have even more. George Washington urged America/Americans not to adopt political parties and every reason he had has come true. Politics in America have become more of a game of the 2 major parties trying to screw the other party. Not enough politicians in either major party actually care about the country or its people. One of my favorite politicians that did was Justin Amash and he was a Republican until he became an Independent recently because he couldn't stand the rest of the party turning into Trump lackeys. Not sure how much you know about our political system if you're from another country but to put it simply, Congress doesn't work for the President. It's another branch of government that is equal in responsibility. But Republicans are acting like the party is some kind of Mafia family run by Trump these days.
@holograph- when Trump tweeted those terrible words at AOC and the squad what he did was he forced them to make up with Pelosi and by doing that has affectively made the entire democratic party be associated with AOC now they are all the same they would couldn’t get a vote if they had to now
It seems so. People are sick of the overuse of those words so we elected Trump to absorb all of them and wouldn’t flinch. Everyone is always taking everything he says out of context just to fit their narrative and to make him seem like the Antichrist. I know a lot of people who do this and seeing their stupid Facebook posts makes me lose brain cells.
Over 90% of people, not matter what position they hold, will use lying, card stacking, and distortions to support what they believe in and knock the other party down in order to get what they want.
Don't get me wrong, I think he's a massive bellend. But I don't think he's racist and I believe he is legitimately trying to improve the country and the economy.
It would have been better had he said 'places' instead of 'countries'. The locations they come from fit the bill just as well. Also, of course they'll call him racist. Orange Man Bad.
