I understand they been separated for a period of time and you never know what goes on behind closed doors between couples, but you simply just don't divorce the mother of your children days after brain surgery. Makes you look like a total insensitive scumbag.

"Separation" is the "taking a break" of marriage; they should've gotten it over with well beforehand. It's possible that for maybe insurance reasons they needed to still be officially married in order for whatever procedure (s) she underwent though, so they waited until everything from that end was taken care of.
