Well, this is certainly good news if true (I haven't checked the news yet). I mean, he can only improve it, not make it any worse than it already is, and he is opposed to the needless censoring of views simply because they're not popular or "correct", and that is something that I think all of us here can support.
I never signed up for a 'Twitter' account, have never used it, precisely because of their opposition to free expression. I had a 'Facebook' account, but closed it when they announced that they had recently changed their policy so that it was now "acceptable" to promote violence against Russians (a decision they quickly regretted). Maybe he should take of 'Facebook' as well.
Deleted my twitter account years go and I won't be making a new one. Also I don't see free speech being twitter or other social media sites issue. It's free speech with no real consequence that is the issue. If you run your mouth outside of social media and consequence of doing so could be a fat lip. A consequence of making claims outside of social media is people demanding hard evidence to back the up the moment your claims are made.
The entire issue with the free speech aspect is people wanting to control speech. A consequence of that is people pushing back, doubling down on speech that a person does not like for any given reason. Also I wouldn't put fighting to keep their rights against many people if push comes to shove.
I don't really use Twitter. But from what I can tell the leftwing rage-retweet mechanism, that is fundamental to the right getting their scams in front of as many eyes as possible, will not change. Maybe just a few more scammers will be allowed back on but I don't think it will make a difference.
I have to laugh at all the negative comments about Twitter on here. I would like to know how this site is any different than twitter. Lol

I joined Twitter because a lot of people on the podcast I listen to say that we should catch them on twitter.
The most popular category on this site is sex, and there's plenty of that on twitter. Things that Instagram would never allow Twitter allows.
And Twitter allows these people to post pictures and videos. So now I get notifications when my favorite couples post a new video.

For now, I'm just enjoying SJW, radical feminists, tolerated racists and leftists crying about fascism because their little echo chamber has been opened to other opinions.
Which has been very fun so far. Hearing them saying that free speech is hate speech or fascism, that's beyond my expectations.
Then we will see. Either Musk does what he says, and Twitter becomes what it was supposed to be, a social platform for everyone. Or I'll watch it goes down in flame and disappear like the burning trash it is.
Either outcome is fine to me, that site has been a tumor to the internet for way too long.
Crap some popcorn and enjoy watching people discuss possible consequences. I couldn´t care less because I don´t see the necessity for using twitter. The appeal of that social network never got me and just because Musk bought it´s not getting more interesting to me.
I rarely use my Twitter account anyway but I’m not sure Musk knows what he’s doing here. 90% of Twitter’s revenue comes from advertising and you have to regulate content on the platform to keep advertisers comfortable associating with Twitter. It’s a necessary evil. Musk has talked about scrapping the advertising altogether and going to a subscription model. It’s really the only way to have unregulated content. If I have to pay for Twitter, I’m gone and probably so will millions of others. He may end up killing it or making it irrelevant. Too many people are used to free social media.
I never found Twitter appealing or social media that much in general. I use Facebook but only for a business page where I post my research and what I'm developing to customers. I used to have a private Facebook page where I only added my real-life friends but I don't even use that anymore.
I'm not on Twitter. Never have been. I don't see myself getting on Twitter just because ownership changed.
