Rishi Sunak (UK Prime Minister) was fined for riding in a car without his seatbelt on; he was seen sitting in the passenger seat without his safety belt on in a social media video. Usually government officials get off with maybe warning, but not this time for Police in Lancashire, England.
Sunak has admitted his mistake and plans to pay the fine, around £100 (about US$124), according to the BBC.
The laws different in the UK. Only the king is above the law, because all arrests and prosecutions are done in his name. Other members of Royalty can and have been prosecuted in the past. However if the king did something illegal it would be seen as an abuse of power rather than criminal. For example the queen paid taxes even though she wasn't legally required.
Politicians no matter what rank are not above the law. Being fined for breaking covid rules was one of the things that brought Boris down so it'll be interesting to see if this affects Rushi.
Diplomatic immunity is more tricky. You're not technically above the law it's more you won't be prosecuted. However if the crime is serious enough and it's in the public interest it can be waived eg in the case of American Anne Sacoolas who killed due to dangerous driving in UK
Very clever of him to put up his hands and admit it and pay his fine. Normally politicians weasel their way out of even the smallest stuff like this, even when we all know. As for no one's above the law, he's allowed himself to be prosecuted.
Yeah see here in the US, the spouse of a mid-level politician can get away with anything short of murder even when a fine is little more than an inconvenience, and a few of our upper crust ones can (allegedly) get away with murder too.
That's good on the UK government (rare that I ever say that) for at least making the effort.
No one should be above the law…. but unfortunately that isn’t reality. Many politicians and/or famous people feel that they are….. and when it goes to trial, many commoners let them off….. a sad place we are in right now.

Some say laws were made to be broken & other find loopholes in laws. Money talks & some judges & politicians listen.
Good for him. That’s a smart move for Aristocracy as he seems like everyone else. We all forget seatbelt and we all pay our fines or lose license.
Because he believes in Statesmanship, not entitlement. Good for him. I hope I would do the same.
Maybe in the UK. In the USA if you are part of the political establishment you can sacrifice children to Moloch and the worst you'll get is forced from office.
He got stopped for riding with no seatbelt. When he gets lugged for taking money from a adversarial nation he will probsably skate.
