Jerry Springer died this morning in his home in Chicago from cancer.
The man had enough self-awareness to know how awful what he'd created was; he was once asked what he hoped his legacy would be and replied "I hope I'm forgotten". While his show DID warrant that, he also did some other noteworthy things, the most notable of which (that I'm aware of, natch) was his mayorship of Cincinnati, and ensuing run for the governship of Ohio.
One of the campaign ads talked about him hiring a prostitute and paying her with a check. "Well," you're probably thinking, "that's not uncommon; attack ads are sadly everywhere in American politics". That's true, but it's not what happened here- it was SPRINGER'S campaign that ran that ad. That man was so unafraid of honesty that he was conscientious even in crime. You have to respect that.
And that win him votes as Cincy's mayor?
No, that was in the later state race; he got trounced.
I remember we would watch his show in high school. I seen a episode on Youtube with Razor Ramon where he gave two kids who had AIDs tickets to WrestleMania before the show had gone crash TV style. My dad liked the show and would watch reruns and Judge Jerry though only watch Judge Jerry once. Never knew he was mayor or even a news reporter before. Without Jerry we wouldn't have Attitude era in wrestling so he will be missed.
Jerry did a lot of things for kids charities too. He was also a hit in many retirement homes ππ
I thought "Jerry's kids" referred to Jerry Lewis?
I think he had the potential to do many good things but he became addicted to easy cash and controversy is easier than character if you want a short cut to money and fame.
I watched "Baggage". I think his other show was scripted and the fights were fake for the most part. Baggage was probably too. But it could be interesting.

Yes, Jerry Springer show was pure fun entertainment , even though it was rigged , it still was a fun show to watch. Jerry was awesome , I heard he was such a down to earth guy as well , A friend of mine met him and said all good things , itβs sad to hear he passed , he was definitely a classic
I always enjoyed the fight scenes. They've the best 😎🤗

I think his show was ludicrous, like a freak show on steroids, lol. I liked him as a person though. I heard he did a lot of great things. I saw some old clips from his show before it got crazy, and from what I seen, he had a decent show back in the beginning. It was more serious. Then again, it's all about ratings! Yeah, I'm gonna miss the guy though.
I wouldn't say I was a fan, I did watch his show sometimes. Most of his shows were over the top and not that interesting. I have no desire to watch a wife wailing on her husband when the woman he's havign an affair with comes on stage. The most interesting (and funniest) part of many of his shows was watching his bouncers come on set to break up the fight that was happening.
He felt bad at the end for the negative impact his show had on society. I have read similar regrets from others who have made big money by being lewd. I would wager though if they could go back in time they would do it all over again for the money.
Wow, I can't believe he passed away, never knew he was sick, he will be deeply missed.
Oh wow that's sad. I liked that show and him. It was mostly bad TV though but entertaining nonetheless.
My dad did executive protection for him when he was the mayor of Cincinnati in the 70's. He also got caught paying a hooker with a personal check. Not a fan.
I used to love the Jerry Springer show as a kid
Welp... he had a good run. Not a fan of his shows because ya know... they were definitely not real. But ey, he was someone to remember for a while
I never watched his show, but I knew who he was.
This is sad news.
I occasionally watched it for what it was - brain candy. It either made me laugh or shake my head.
Yea they actually let people get in some good swings and hits before breaking up the fight. May he rip
Springer's show was a celebration of the worst aspects of humanity. I didn't watch it regularly and I won't miss it. What I hated most was his sanctimonious lecture at the end of every show. Fuck Jerry Springer.
no, he was before my time probly active in the 80s?
Damn. He was big in the '90s. Can't say I was a fan, but you have to admire the insanity of that show.
I used to watch his show. Rest in peace.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/AnwgbH0TPbITBH I've never seen his show and I'm seeing his face for the first time.
I watched his show when I was a little girl.
Not really, his show was always way too obviously staged.
Nope but may his soul rest in peace.
Rest in Peace Jer Bear 😭
remember when his show was fiction? now America is like that every day
Some of his shows yes lmao. Rest In Peace
No, not a fan.
It became way too disturbing.
I enjoyed watching it every so often. Rip
Godfather of talk shows
I don't even know who he was.
