Florida Governor DeSantis has signed a law to give stiffer penalties to shoplifters and Porch pirates. This is somebody dressed up as a bag of trash stealing a package from somebody's front porch.
Other residents in my apartment building do take our packagesbbecause they are left at our apartment outside, and our clean laundry 🧺 as well.
So I have my helper lady order my stuff and have it delivered to her house. She has a back house so it's safe.
The UPS and FedEx put packages right in front of the apartment on the ground and barely knock and run. If you don't happen to hear them knock, and sometimes they don't even do that, you are SOL and a victim of these pirates.
When I first moved here, yes, I ordered a mattress cover for my bed, and it was stolen. I had to pay again to get another one.
I believe with the influx of people there will be more porch pirate's. They'll probably take your packages inside your house to give them something to do while squatting in your house that they have also stolen from you.

I thought I was one time. Turned out it was my cleaning lady bringing in my package. 🙈

That is very unlikely to happen where I live. I have never heard of it happening to anyone around here. But sometimes the neighbors put food on my porch and the squirrels steal it.
Not all that long ago those delivery people didn't leave stuff on porches unless you didn't answer the door. Even then they didn't always do it. Now they automatically do it.
I leave my doors open at night when I sleep, and sometimes when I go out. I know a lot of my neighbors don't lock their door. I never ever lock my car door at home either.- u
nope... at one place, nobody near to come around and bother, lol
and the other place, it's a very old known neighborhood and community, I don't even lock my door... nobody would steal a package, and if something is there and sitting long enough neighbors do take care of it... although nobody would steal it, lol
My street is still safe so far. When it's no longer safe enough for me to receive packages or leave my doors unlocked, I'll move. I think that time is coming sooner than later though. The next town over looks like a foreign country all of a sudden. 😬
No. I pay $.68 per day to have a private postal mailbox. If that’s too, pricey, Amazon has free lockers you can use. I’m sure Amazon is dollars ahead by giving you a free Amazon locker versus continuously replacing the computers they sent you, but we’re stolen.
No. But 9/10 it is usually the delivery driver themselves who are the "pirate". the other 1 is the neighbour.
I also find it fucking hilarious that people who have a "porch pirate" problem will spend 300 odd bucks on a camera system to "catch" the culprit., Instead of 10 odd bucks to pickup from a secured location in the first place.
If I am not home or someone isn't there to pickup, then use a pickup service - it's what it's there for,

Never been the victim but I use my office address for all Amazon deliveries.
no, luckily mail people aren't allowed to leave shit at your porch here unless you specifically allowed it to them.
I did once. I shot him with a tear gas ball. It stopped him in his tracks. He was choking on the tear gas and he couldn't open his eyes. The cops took him away. I think they took him to the hospital before jail
not yet.
our stuff has been delivered to the wrong house, but that is it.There is a nifty device called "Blank Box" which uses a blank 12 gauge round and a box. When a porch pirate moves the box, the blank discharges... and the pirate discharges shit and runs😂
No. But I've never ordered anything online, EVER.

Good grief, people are getting silly.
Anyway, no.
Some tweaker stole one of my brother's packages off the front porch. It was a set of strings for an 8 string steel guitar. They were probably pissed they couldn't trade it for meth.
No, but some of our friends and neighbors have.
I've put fake boxes out just to fuck with them and turn over camera footage to cops. Fuck them
This doesn't really happen in Sweden, but I've understood it to be a big issue in the US. The sheer gall to walk up to someone's home and just nab a product they paid for.
no, I'm lucky. I have a three foot tall planter that blocks the view of my front porch from the street
I have not. I live on a hill and people are too lazy to walk up it.
No, never. I respect other peoples property.
They dressed up as themselves. Lol
