As an personal aside, I am still LIVID 12 years later over the Republican Party—particularly the House—concerned that spending on disaster relief is offset by cutting costs elsewhere. @ 200 House Republicans voted against emergency relief after Superstorm Sandy ravaged much of the New York Area and the Northeast in 2012.
My students & neighbors were homeless! Our school was an island in a lake! My fam & I delivered 1000s of meals to people. We had no electric for 12 days - others 36 days, no ⛽, jammed cell phone lines, food & water shortages.

I would vote against literally any bill that had any funding for anything that had nothing to do with the name of the bill, whether it was something I agreed with or not, because I believe in that level of transparency for the taxpayer. Nothing gets passed this year? Fine by me. Shut everything down until the pork projects get ripped out.

It's the role of the government to govern, not to provide. Simple as that. If people want to live in hurricane zones, they can buy their own insurance. It's completely absurd to expect tax payers to bail out people who chose to live in a high risk area without insurance. I buy my insurance, or not buy it, by choice. So should they. If they choose not to buy it, then they suffer the consequences.
