Who should be held responsible for this fatal bungee accident?

Question

In Brazil, 21 year old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues died when 3 men tossed her off a bridge without securing the bungee cord.

Immediately after it happened, the men tried to flee but were later apprehended. When questioned, the men could not remember who was responsible for securing the bungee cord.

So, who should be held responsible, and what should their punishment be?

I have Bungee jumped here in Thailand, and in mine you certainly would have known if the rope was not on , it's quite a process.

Legality? Well as sad as it is USA is simply far too litigious , always looking to " blame " , this is an extreme action , there has to be personal responsibility, it's not a USA theme park , they didn't do it deliberately..

So , death by misadventure.

And to USA citizens , when you travel , to Asia , to Brazil ( and like ) understand Sht happens , don't try and change it , you are visiting for a reason.

I don't know about the law in Brazil, but in the US, all three would be charged at least with manslaughter, possibly murder. It is quite suspicious that the bungee cord was not attached to her harness.

In Canada if you hit somebody without intending to whip driving, you are charged with a violent crime if you flee the site of the crash without standing at the scene of the crash until police arrive and reporting the accident to law enforcement.

I would say, if the 3 did not flee, it would be unclear who is guilty of causing her death, but since all 3 tried to flee, they all 3 guilty of murder or assault causing bodily harm.

All of them. Commonsense says every step should be double checked, ideally by separate people. I'm assuming they've done this before and would be well aware what an attached rope feels like. I'd question if it was an accident at all.

Everyone involved but especially those who tried to flee because they knew they fucked up big time. How did anyone not notice there was no bungee attached to her? Thats what I don’t understand. In the videos you can clearly see she wasn’t attached to anything.

The company should and the men for criminal negligence.

In certain jobs people have a duty of care towards customers, fellow employees, citizens etc. For instance a janitor mopping the floor will put up a wet floor sign in case people slip.

The three that threw her off the bridge are responsible. They ran the company and event. This was an illegal set-up as they were trespassing on the bridge.

As I understand it, they had no right to use the bridge for that purpose. Some of them worked for a company that did have the right but lost the right and stopped. The ex-employees kept going and with my quick math were making $1,000 a day if they did 20 people. In Brazil, that is good money.

They claimed they “shared responsibility” for hooking up the client but this one was not hooked up. They should have had someone assigned to it and then a backup to check it. These three are responsible.

They are responsible for sure, the team who threw her off, the girl has died, no matter what the punishment is going to be, she won't return from the dead, but i think that they shall pay the price as a crime and this must be a lesson for others on how to secure things with responsibility, especially when you have people's lives counting on you!

Punishment? Make them jump off the same bridge with no bungee cord. Walking the plank was a good idea in 1750 and it still works today.
