Who do you think should be at fault?

Question

The scenario: 17 Jimmy breaks into friends house and steals a legally stored and secured firearm. Friends dad, Joe, doesn't realize gone is gone (he's on vaca or jimmy covered his tracks well).

Jimmy uses the gun in a crime and kills someone. He's caught, the gun is found.

Forget about your state... whom do you think should be at fault (criminal and civil) for shooting the person dead?

I'll provide the answer from my state, as I know it, soon.

Gun is tool like a knife or garden scissor. If someone take a knife from you kitchen and kills a person on the street it's idiotic to sue former knife owner for this murder.
If you own guns you need a safe with key and electronic code. ( at least here) This safe has to be heavy or secured with steel bolts in concrete, so it can't be carried away easily.
The question is how this criminal person could obtain a legal firearm?

Define stored and secured. A loaded weapon in a sock drawer doesn’t meet my criteria for stored and secured. Weapon in a gun safe and ammo in a separate safe.

But if the gun owner met those criteria then he has no liability and Jimmy goes down for multiple felonies and is tried as an adult. Hopefully Jimmy finds his forever love on cell block C.

Jimmy 1,000%. Doesn't matter who originally owned it, the boy  stole it  first, then went out to kill someone. All his fault, not the owner's. If they try to sue that man or anything else he better let all hell break loose with a really effective legal team.

The shooter is always 100% responsible for their crimes. Zero exceptions ever.
IF they were GIVEN the gun explicitly for the purpose of committing crimes, the person, people or organization that did that is responsible for different crimes, but not those committed using the gun. This whole passing the blame until it lands on someone else, usually a straight white male, is all made-up democrat nonsense.

Jimmy steals a secured firearm and kills someone with it then that's all on Jimmy. The only way Joe might be at fault is if he knowingly gave Jimmy access to the firearm, but if Jimmy stole it, it's Jimmy at fault.

Jimmy is responsible for the crime. Generally speaking, the victim of the theft is not responsible, but they may have to prove there was no negligence on their part for keeping the weapon secured.

This is where a jury of peers comes and the whole process of a trial is important. You can spin this a dozen different ways. There is a process of giving a jury information and 12 have to be on the same page to convict someone.

Joe is not to blame as he had dine everything he was supposed to do. Its just like if a theif stole you car and ran someone over its not your fault or if a theif fell through your roof trying to break in then its not on you.
