I would quietly get it into my truck and bring it home with me after working the rest of the day. let it sit for a year and then look for a way to melt it into gold bars and sell it slowly.

There is no reward. It’s not true that you “can’t do anything with it”. Anyone can own a hobbyist smelter. Melt the gold down, cast new unmarked ingots and then sell it; preferably when gold is most valuable. The risk is obscuring the historical or archaeological value. There might be certain museums or even governments that would want the gold and be able to establish the story behind it.

Selling $10 million worth of gold is a problem. You will either get cauggt or the criminals you are trying to deal with will take it from you.
Depends where you are. there's finder keeper states, landowner states, 50/50 states and keep nothing states. Regardless the federal government will treat it as income and tax it.

There are plenty of shops that buy gold and it doesn’t spoil. So you don’t have to sell it all at once. Criminals need not be involved.

$10 million is a lot of Gold. Then youve the problem even if you get it sold as to where the money cane from. Believe me hiding cash from the government is not so easy.

Again, does not matter. Just pay the taxes. Once it’s smelted, they can’t prove that it ever belonged to anyone but you. Just tell them it was left to you by family.
It’s really not that difficult. In the last two years, various individuals and entities have exposed literally BILLIONS in waste, fraud and abuse. What makes you think it’s impossible to hide money from the government when people are literally getting away with stealing directly from the government?
That’s not even counting the many laundering options available. Billions of dollars is laundered every year. How many people do you know of who got caught? Ell oh ell!
