Ladies how would you feel if your significant other didn’t get you anything for Valentines Day?

I’m not the type of person that expects an extravagant gift, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little hurt. We just started dating in November and we only see each other on weekends since he lives an hour away. He came to visit this past weekend so I put together a little Valentines basket for him with all his favorite candies, scratch offs, and a few small gifts. Nothing crazy. When I gave it to him he immediately was saying how sorry he was and that it slipped his mind because V Day is Tuesday and he wasn’t thinking. He said he was going to make it up to me and has said multiple times since then how bad he feels. I do not expect any gifts etc. A simple card would make me happy but I didn’t want to make him feel bad so I just told him how it was fine I wasn’t upset etc.

Being in the relationship I am now, I’m sorry but I feel like that’s inexcusable. I’ve been in several relationships in my life whether it was just dating or with an actual title. Until my current boyfriend, I’ve never celebrated Valentine’s Day with someone other than my girlfriends. I used to feel happy even just to get an acknowledgment text from a guy, let alone a gift of any kind. Now I realize that it’s just not ok at all. Valentine’s Day is advertised and talked about absolutely everywhere, it’s not a small holiday or something easily missed. So to say he forgot just seems like an excuse and a lack of care when it comes to showing his love for you. I know many would disagree and that’s fine to each their own, but if the holiday is at least relatively important to you and you got him something, it’s ok to want that in return. It is very hurtful and while I don’t think this is grounds to break up, you should let him know how you’re feeling and hopefully he makes it up to you.

That actually happened to me today but I wasn't sad or anything like that because I don't really get sad that often because I'm pretty much always happy

He probably did just forget. It’s more meaningful to some people than others.


I hope he does try to make it up to you! You clearly expressed and showed it’s a meaningful day to you. So if he’s a good guy he’ll take that to heart and make it up to you.


Can’t really be upset if he does make it up to you. If he doesn’t, that isn’t cool by him tho.
