I feel like it’s often marketed that way, but what about the guys? Shouldn’t they get just as much appreciation and thoughtfulness on this day too? What are some ways to make it special for him as well?
1 yI agree any genuine relationship isn’t one sided as far as marketing goes if someone’s tight on money it doesn’t have to be all fancy dinners, expensive gifts, etc. It can be if both people can afford that but it should be a special day to celebrate one another.
It can just be going for a romantic walk, a romantic drive, just being there for one another, among many other things. Relationships that are entirely materialistic hardly ever last not that gift giving is by any means wrong.
Even if the relationship dynamic is the “man has to pay and buy everything” there should still be equal effort. She could write him a letter, she could spend time with him, give him a massage, or whatever it is.

1 yAs for Valentine’s Day it’s a wonderful day & it’s a day where hearts can connect. As for Valentine’s Day it’s on the 14th of February & YES I do believe Valentine’s Day is just for girls. As for March 14th it’s called Steak & Blowjob Day & Steak and Blowjob Day is a satirical unofficial holiday created as a male response to Valentine's Day and celebrated a month later, on March 14. Look it up ladies & get your steak ready.

I think that’s usually just how it’s marketed and girls are more into the holiday than guys are. However I do think it’s for both genders, like this year a friend of mine made her husband a gift box of some candy, a bear and other cute stuff to ask him to be her valentines. So you can make it special for the guy too.

1 yIt’s always been mutual for me. Sure I get candy or whatever, but I have always surprised my guy by taking him out to a restaurant or some other place he will enjoy. I really have fun picking the places.

Its marketed in terms of guilt and other such emotions to 50% of the population , its a ludicrous concept actually , but its great marketing , it will never be aimed at men , other than to remind them to spend some crazy amount of money.
If you were even half smart you'd celebrate your own day on the 21st or something like that , its all simply a marketing con , as are all of these seasons and days.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yIt's for couples, but marketing really is targeted toward women. Honestly, I kind of wish we did what some Asian countries do. Valentine's Day is a day to show love and appreciation for men. One month later on March 14th is White Day, where the men reciprocate and show their love and appreciation for women. (And Korea has Black Day on April 14th where people who didn't get a gift on either day wear black, eat black food, and gather to lament how miserably single they are.)

1 yI've literally never heard of this, lol. The way I've always seen it was that it was just for couples in general. If it were for only girls that'd mean that Valentine's Day is just for lesbian couples exclusively.

1 yIt is for girls.
The pressure is put on the man to do something special for her. There is not any expectation for the girl to do anything for the guy at all.

1 yI am with you on that. I usually see flowers, dinner dates, chocolate, ... And that is why I don't like Valentine's Day. We usually don't do anything like that on that day. We're just together.

10 ReplyIt is for girls; guys are expected to show their love, girls are not. This also applies to every aspect of a relationship🤣
