Our first Valentine's day flunked?

My boyfriend and I have been together 7 months. He's never had a girlfriend before me. For our FIRST Valentine's day, I have gotten my hair done, nails done, a new outfit and him a gift. Meanwhile he waited until last minute to plan our date. Vday is on a Friday (today) and he called me Monday trying to make reservations at a restaurant and everything said booked (we checked online). He apologized admitted he should of booked something sooner but he's never had a girlfriend on vday before. So I said well that's okay why don't we just get take out do and do a picnic inside. He agreed but also made dinner reservations incase we wanted to go the day after Valentine's day. Yesterday the day before vday he texted me, "Just to let u know I told my friend I would help him move for a bit on Saturday morning" (the friend just got an apartment). But now I'm upset because it feels like he doesn't care much about our first Valentine's day. He didn't really plan anything, I got him a gift without knowing if he even got me anything, now he's going to be leaving me the morning after to help his friend? his defense is that I would be sleeping while he helps his friend move but does anyone else feel this is wrong? A month ago I even hinted at how I would of loved to get a room for the night (because originally we were supposed to go to this nice restaurant far away). Yet, nada. Now I have told him I'm upset, it's Valentine's day and he hasn't even texted me to say happy Valentine's day... thoughts?

It is a lame excuse that oh I didn't had any girlfriend before, for not showing love to somebody they are in relationship with. When we love someone, we naturally feels to do something such so that we can make them happy. It's our natural instinct to do something for our special one's to make them feel special.

But if this relationship isn't based on love but it is only a relationship only if because we want to have a relationship (for name sake) then it's bad.

You should talk about it first with him, if still you see no difference, then it's better for you to find someone who loves you. No need to waste time here.

To be honest he probably doesn’t care much about Valentine’s Day, as hurtful as it may seem, this day is more about the women. We’re the ones who need this specific day of showing love and feel excluded if we don’t have it. My boyfriend shows me he loves me every single day, does yours? Do you feel loved, appreciated and all the things you’re supposed to feel on vday, but every day? That’s what matters most. If you can’t genuinely say that you don’t feel these things every day then you’ve got bigger fish to fry.

He probably doesn't care that much about valentines ^^ you can't really fault him for that, I think. You just weren't on the same page. It sucks.

Personally I don't like days like valentines either. It's a stupid day, in my opinion. You wanna have a special date, go have one with him. You don't need something like "valentines" as an excuse to do that. You want to give him a gift? Give him a gift. Insisting that it has to be on this one specific day is bound to make you more unhappy than if you didn't care about when to have a special date.
