I take it as an insult, because people always say this to me. I want to be beautiful in real life, I don't care how I look in photos! what do you think?
For all you haters, life's too short!
"Photogenic" is a term used to describe someone or something that looks attractive, appealing, or aesthetically pleasing when photographed. It refers to individuals or objects that naturally come across well in photographs, often due to their facial features, expressions, or overall appearance.
People who are considered photogenic tend to effortlessly capture attention and look great in pictures, whether they are posed or candid shots. Remember that being photogenic is more than just physical appearance; it also includes traits such as charm, confidence, and the ability to connect with the camera. So, if someone tells you that you're photogenic, it means you have a knack for looking fantastic in photographs!
In fact, the most important rule of being photogenic is definitely to feel comfortable taking photos. You should just relax and be confident about yourself. Feeling comfortable and confident in front of the camera can greatly improve your photogenic appeal. Maintain good posture and show confidence by relaxing your body. This will make you appear more natural and at ease, which will result in more authentic and appealing images.
Also, you should know your own angles. You can try to experiment with different angles to find your most flattering poses. A more dynamic and visually fascinating composition can be created by slightly tilting your head, rotating your body at an angle, or situating yourself with one foot slightly in front of the other. It’s all about your decision and taste.
Lighting plays a crucial role in photography. Natural light, especially during the golden hours, you know, early morning or late afternoon, tends to be the most flattering. Soft, diffused light can help minimize harsh shadows and create a more even and pleasing look. Direct overhead lighting, which can throw unpleasant shadows on your face, should be avoided.
Additionally, you should pay attention to grooming details such as hair, makeup, and overall presentation. Make sure your hair is neatly done, your makeup is applied tastefully, and your clothing is nice and well-fitted. These minor nuances can have a major impact on your overall photogenic appeal.
You want to up your posing game and look fantastic in every photo? Here are some easy simple tips on how to give photogenic poses.
As I said before, the key to a great pose is feeling comfortable and confident. Take a deep breath, loosen up, and let your natural self shine through. Remember, you don't need to imitate anyone else, just be you!
Awkwardly placed hands can distract from a great pose. Instead, experiment with different hand positions. You can rest your hands on your hips, lightly touch your face, or casually place them in your pockets. Find what feels natural and adds a touch of elegance to your overall pose.
Your eyes have the ability to communicate a lot of emotion and draw people into the image. Rather than just staring blankly, concentrate on something that elicits a real reaction, such as a joyful recollection, a hilarious joke, or someone you care about. Let your eyes sparkle with that connection.
And you should smile from within. You know, a sincere smile is the secret ingredient to an amazing pose. Think of something that genuinely makes you happy or brings a smile to your face. Allow that feeling to flow from within, and your grin will automatically shine through, making your images even more engaging.
Try to have fun and be spontaneous. Don't be afraid to try different poses or mix things up. Play around, be spontaneous, and let your personality shine through. Remember, the more you enjoy the process, the more your photogenic qualities will come to life!
Keep in mind that being photogenic is not about conforming to a specific set of rules or trying to be someone else. It's all about embracing your uniqueness, feeling confident, and allowing your inner personality to shine through in every stance. The most photogenic poses come from a place of authenticity and genuine enjoyment. So, don't overthink it, have fun, and trust in your own unique charm.
When we call someone photogenic person, we usually imply that they have particular characteristics or characteristics that translate well into images. Facial symmetry, well-defined features, expressive eyes, a captivating smile, or an overall attractive appearance are examples of these characteristics.
A photogenic person just naturally knows how to strike a pose and rock the camera. They have a certain charm and attractiveness that shines through whenever they're photographed.
It's not just about being good-looking; it's also about having that special something that makes their pictures stand out. They might have a great smile, expressive eyes, or just radiate confidence in front of the lens. So, if people call you photogenic, it's a way of saying you have that magical quality that makes you look amazing in every snapshot!
A photogenic person is often referred to as a "camera magnet" or a "picture-perfect individual." They are the ones who always manage to look fantastic in photographs, effortlessly capturing attention and admiration. You might also call them a "natural in front of the camera" or a "photography superstar."
They have that special spark that makes every picture of them shine. So, if you have a friend who always looks amazing in photos, you can playfully call them the "resident photogenic superstar" or simply the "camera darling." It's all in good fun and a way to acknowledge their ability to rock any shot with style!
So, to put it briefly, I think it's a compliment to tell someone that they are photogenic. It's a well-intentioned term for both their appearance and their ability to pose.
It's really meant as a compliment. I don't think it means you look better in pictures than you do in real life, it's just that you take good pictures is all. In fact, I wish I were photogenic! I mean, my pictures are okay, but they could be a little better, I think. Anyways, I'm sure you are very pretty in real life as well as in your pictures. Don't think about it too hard when people say that you are photogenic, because they don't mean it as an insult at all. ^-^
It means you do well in front of the camera. Has absolutely nothing to do if you look better in photos or not. A lot of people freeze in front of the camera or hate having their picture taken. Me, I have a hard time doing poses because I get all tense and stiff. We had to re-take a lot of the professional photos we got done on R&R because I just can't pose. But, I have been told I'm photogenic when I just let loose and take crazy, unposed pictures :)
Oh cool, thanks for explaining :)
Being photogenic means photos of you look good. Not everyone looks good in photographs, I am one of them. Every photo I have doesn't look as good as I do in person...I've had TONS of people tell me "wow, that's a bad photo of you, etc." I get it all the time but that's just because I'm not a photo sort of guy.
I wouldn't take it as an insult, it means you look nice in photographs.
It's a compliment. Yea, you may be attractive in person, but what that compliment means is that it translates over to your photos too. Some people feel that they look horrible in photos and that photos don't do them justice or even resemble them. The compliment just means that you photograph well, and look "natural" in a photo.
It's not meant as an insult at all.

I have studied photography and its my hobby trust me you have to be good looking in real life to be photogenic its a fact.. Photos are just a way of capturing what is there already ...The sort of beauty that is in magazines and tv is manipulated by air brushed make up and lighting techniques.
people who work in the advertising industry are evil and bully you into buying products from them ..They work in two ways of bullying you into buying products.
for guys they use the technique ...If you don't buy this you aren't cool and macho and you won't get any girls and so on
for girls the use the technique...If you don't buy this you won't be beautiful like the girl on the advert and you will lose all your beauty if you don't use our anti wrinkle cream every day and so on
its a mind game don't believe the hype
I will be very frank here so be insulted if you want to feel that way, I could not care less. I have a sister who is very photogenic. I will you why, her face is oval/round, all her features are very proportionally shaped. Her cheeks bone are around and does not have any angles or pointing facial features screaming out. That is why people like her take good pictures. You do not need to be pretty to be photogenic. You just need to have good bone structures for all your facial feature: the face, the nose, the cheeks, the face shape. From my observations, the people with round/oval faces do better in picture than the ones with angular face shapes and sharp features. Now, I did not say that the those people are good looking. Have you seen people who have perfect facial features yet as a whole, their face don't look striking at all? I have seen plenty. Have you seen people with not so perfect looking facial features but as a whole, there is something enchanting, charismatic and drawing you to them? I have seen those too. Therefore, I personally think you are not pretty. Don't be offended because you already gave that away yourself. You stated that you take the people's comment of stating your are photogenic as an insult. The reason you feel insulted is simply because you, yourself, do not think that you are attractive either. People's opinions justified your inner self-consciousness and you get mad and turn around get offended by their comments. I have met countless people who are like you, who get offended because they look worse outside than in their photos and they notice that too but do not want to admit it. That's why you get offended. It is as simple as that. Honesty is my best policy.
Oh and I forgot to add. "You're photogenic" is a comment, an statement of opinion, it is NOT a compliment. It's just like telling you that you're tall. If you need an ego booster by considering that as a compliment than it's your issue. That statement is also not an insult. If you take it as an insult is because of your insecurity and inferior complex. You should not take it as an insult either since it isn't. Now if people want to make it an insult, they would have to tell you something such as "You are photogenic...compared to your ugly look outside..." then it's kind of in-your-face dissing your look there.
no I don't think it means you can only be attractive in pictures but that you also look good in pictures and natural and like yourself. so take it as a compliment.
I actually think that I have the opposite problem where usually I think I look better in real life than in pictures.
Most people are like that... I often wonder oh man, if that's what I look like on pictures...what do I look like in real life?? lol but oh well! I am who I am! :)
beleve me its a complement. it just means you look good in your photos. some people are really good looking in real life but in photos don't look so hot.. if your photogenic that means you look just as good in your photos as you do in person.. and belive me if you were ugly in person there's no person that would say you are photogenic because if you were ugly none would want to look at your pics... so don't take it as an insult say ty and be happy..
I think you're taking this way too seriously. All it means is that you take good pictures... that you look the same in photos as you do in person (which is a good thing!). Next time someone says that to you, just take it as a compliment and smile cause they're for sure envious of your good luck :)
it means that you photograph well.
aka, you're as pretty on film as you are in person. congratulations, not many people can do them both, haha.
Haha, thanks
You're very welcome! seriously, I'm always cheesing my ass off or blinking or my arm looks awkward... me and photography are like oil and water, haha. I wish I had your 'problem' :)
It's a compliment, without a doubt. It means you're "pretty as a picture." If someone thinks you look great in pictures, they probably think you look even greater in real life.
When I say someone is photogenic, that is a compliment. It just means they look even BETTER than they do in real life, but it doesn't mean that they're ugly or something in real life. You're very lucky, aha, I'm the total opposite!
Taking a compliment as an insult is really unfair to the compliment giver. Taking offense when none is intended is silly. Taking offense when it is intended is just as silly.
photogenic means you're so good looking that people would think you're comfortable with any different angles they take of you with a camera, you look hot still. that's all it means
is that really a problem of your people telling you your pretty
I don't see it as 'pretty' but thanks :)
If you take it as an insult then sorry but your a pessimist who really needs a dictionary. Its a compliment. It means that you're a beautiful girl that really pops in a photo. That you have that je ne sais quoi factor. People in magazines are photogenic.
it totally doesn't mean you aren't good looking in real life. in fact, it's pretty hard to look REALLY good in pictures if you don't look good in real life. I'm sure you're beautiful.
You're so nice, thanks!
Hey some people make careers out of being "Photogenic". I am totally NOT photogenic and I wish I were.
it just means you take good photos. some people are cute in real life but look messed up in pics. you don't be happy!
Its a dynamic and attractive way for complimenting a photogenic person.lol
Thnx
It means that you're a natural in front of the camera, I think. I tend to stay away from cameras unless I'm the one snapping.
It doesn't meanyou're ugly.. its a compliment! that means you not only look good on person.. but also on pictures
Thanks hun!
It means that your pictures capture your beauty! :) it's a good thing and take it as a compliment.
it means you look goodd in both real life and in pics it a good thing!
