I have noticed most schools have no stall doors in the men's rooms. There seem to always be doors on the ladies room stalls. Why is this?

I really have no idea, but at my high school, the girls' bathroom on the second floor had no door on one of the stalls because it fell off at some point, and God forbid they fix it. So, I'm guessing it's a similar situation for the guys.

Actually, there were like five stalls in that bathroom, but only one of them was usable. . .I never questioned what went on in that bathroom until now.

I remember in middle school it was like a thing at our school to swing on the doors. Mainly for the guys and I remember them swinging on the stall doors. (They never shut the door to the bathroom). and I am sure the doors got damaged and fell off, and schools need money for books and stuff, not new doors.

no stalls? you mean there's only urinals in the boys' room? hmm. that's weird. the only reason I can think is because the guys are more prone to violence in the bathrooms. I remember a couple of years ago in high school, guys would shove the less fortunate guys' heads in the toilet, aka SWIRLY. so that's probably why the boys don't have stalls, less chance for violence

Da-Boss NO! NO! NO! NOT SWIRLY! NO!

Haha. I remember swirly in high school. The only time I ever did it to someone was when this punk did it to my little brother. I almost drowned the poor bastard after that. Best reason to ever get OSS. - 2 months ago

I've noticed it too, and it bothers me! I'm extremely big on my privacy and open stall doors are not cool with me at all.

I need a door. There had better be a door, that you can close, or I'm not doing anything.

I think though that when doors don't exist, I think in the schools especially, a lot of the boys can be careless. They will rip the doors off their hinges, use them to write filthy messages, and break them. Vandalism is funny to some people. Go figure.

But I think that's often why there are no doors. They're either missing, and it's a pain to install the new ones, or there isn't money to continuously buy new doors. In addition, there are strict rules regarding replacing things, so it will take forever with all the red tape to fix anything.

I remember a teacher who was nearly fired because he fixed a broken window; it had been broken 6 months before, and no one had bothered to take care of it. No one had even bothered to cover it up with cardboard, so he covered it for the time being. He had put in all kinds of work orders for the custodians to fix it, and they didn't bother even looking at it. It was becoming a danger/inconvenience because of upcoming winter weather and wasps flying in, so he got sick of it; He was a handy guy, so he took money out of his own pocket, got new glass, and fixed it himself.

He got into a LOT of trouble. And it was frustrating for him, because he 1) felt he had to take care of something that wasn't his job 2) the custodians weren't doing THEIR jobs 3) This was a wealthy area: Not like a school with no money 4) He got severely reprimanded for it, even though he was doing the right thing. He hadn't even complained about the expense, and yet he's docked pay, and all this goes into his permanent record.

This might all have something to do with the issue, though all my schools usually had doors in the guys rooms; minus the locker rooms, of course.

From a guy who grew up in a high school because his parents worked there. From what I remember there was one stall with a door in the 2 bathrooms I used when there. After a while it was gone. Why? Vandalism. Idiot guys like to beat things up. It came down to fixing the problem or just giving up because the doors would likely just be broken again. In my elementary school, middle school, and college, there were doors. It's the same reason why you might notice a lot of the stuff in the bathrooms isn't very nice or beat up and covered in "carvings" or other graffiti.

Oh and if you're thinking how can someone be stupid enough to break the door? Trust me, it's possible. I spent 5 years in an all male dorm. I saw door knobs busted off doors, water fountains destroyed, toilet paper dispensers broken or carved up (The brand new one for that matter), and more.

The question is, what are you doing in the girlsroom?

It's for two reasons. At least from what I've heard.

The first is for cleaning purposes. Janitors have a hard time cleaning the stalls and holding the doors open at the same time.

The second reason is for faculty to catch drug users and other crimes and transactions in the bathroom. When staff used to open stalls before and catch kids, parents would complain it was a violation of privacy.

So take the doors off and voila! No more privacy.
