Am I too fat?

Question

I'm in the acting business and I want to study theater and become an actress. I'm just so afraid of losing parts because I'm too fat. All the stars are like a 100 lbs. I'm 5'7 and 126 lbs. too fat?

In the average Joe's opinion, certainly not, you're right where you should be.

In the Director's opinion, maybe, maybe not. Hollywood has a thing for very thin girls (Miley Cyrus, Katie Holmes). The reason is because they want to attract men to their movies and in some ways will be manipulating you to do it (having a sex scene or even so much as a beach scene for example). I've heard that the camera's supposedly add 15-20 pounds and that may be why but don't put yourself down, the vast majority of guys would never think of you as fat and in all honesty neither would the Director's, but the Director's will make you think you're fat to loose more weight.

Well I can tell you that 126 pounds is not fat at all in the eyes of most guys, in fact it's just about right.  Unfortunately though the people who decide whether or not you get parts aren't most guys, and they will probably hold you to a completely different standard.  I can tell you though that if you lost weight for the purpose of getting these parts, you'd probably be too skinny in the eyes of most guys.

No, you're just fine. I seriously doubt they're all 100lbs. Super waif's like the Olsen Twins, probably, but the majority no. And at your height being that thin would be really unhealthy. Dress yourself to look thinner and tone up if you need to, but don't go out of your way to lose weight. Theatre has roles for every shape and size of person, even if that hasn't really gotten into the superstar realm yet. Be who you are, work on the acting, and stay healthy.

Of course it's not fat. Do you really want to be like the many eating-disordered girls? Movies need all sorts of shapes and sizes anyway. And if you don't believe me, you need to look up a BMI chart on the internet. It means body mass index. According to what you said, your in the perfect range.

You certainly aren't heavy for a normal girl or a normal profession.  For Hollywood though, that might be just a little too much.  I would have to think you are close.  If you can hit 115 I would think that would probably be sufficient.  And yeah, I think it's weird that a girl would have to be so small, but if you're looking to make it in that industry that's what I would recommend.

I think your weight is perfectly normal.

Beware of assuming what other people want. Some famous actors and actresses are very slender, but others are average or even bigger than average. Takes all types.

There is nothing wrong with that. I knew a girl who was 5'5 and weighed 140lbs but she didn't look that fat because she knew how to style herself.

I've never heard of stars that are 100 lbs, their all 50-55kg which is a good weight.

Re-evaluate your thinking, all the stars are not 100 lbs.  Your size sounds great, so all you have to work on is your acting skills.
