Can a white guy get a Bob Marley tattoo?

Question

Bob Marley is my personal hero. I have been greatly influenced by his music and philosophy so I was thinking of getting a tattoo of him and a quote on my back. The problem is that I am super white, with red hair and freckles.

Normally I don't pay attention to race and I have white, black, hispanic, asian, and arabic friends, but I'm worried that I'm going to be labeled as some punk ass wannabee.

I didn't think about it until one of my white friends got the rastafarian flag on their arm and some black kids at my school were offended.

So what do you guys think? Is getting the tattoo a bad idea?

I'm Jamaican, and I have to say that if the black kids are getting mad about your friend getting a Rastafarian tattoo, that means that they themselves don't know what it  really is to be a Rasta. It's about being one with one another. Black, white, brown, everything. It's about peace, love, and unity. You can tell them that once they start raggin' on you for your new Marley tattoo. Go for it, honey. Get it. And plus..the ink colors will look even better against your pale skin = )

You should defo get it! There is no rule saying white guys cannot get bob marley tattoos. You shouldn't care what other people think on something like a tattoo because at the end of the day you are getting it for yourself and you're the one that has to live with it for the rest of your life not some random guys who see it. Also, Camilus makes an excellent point.

I don't see why you shouldnt get the tattoo. Life's too short. Its not like they are gonna see it anyway cos it'll be on your back but if they do who cares? if they are foolish enough to be offended by it then I don't think you should care what they think.

Why in blue blazes should it matter what they think. They can deal with it. Wasn't Bob Marley about uniting all sorts of people regardless of the hate? As long as you remember that get the tattoo.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but that's just me. :) He did inspire many people. Actually when I went to Costa Rica there is a city down there dedicated to him.

I don't think it would offend anyone or anything, wasn't Bob Marley all about unity, etc.? As long as you know why you want to get it and you're happy with it that's all that matters. :)
