My crush is avoiding me? I'd like some experienced answerers?

There’s this guy at school. We’re both freshmen in high school. We have a lot in common, like we both like video games and stuff like that. I have a feeling he’s inexperienced [like I am] and maybe kind of shy when it comes to girls he likes, despite that he’s really witty and loud.

About a week and a half ago, one Saturday, I got his cell number from a friend. I texted him saying hi and who I was, and he replied saying hey. We started talking about what we were up to and what we liked, and throughout the whole conversation he didn’t even ask how I got his number or anything like that. We started texting jokes and really stuff to each other for about three hours straight that night. Didn’t talk to him the next day, Sunday.

But on Monday, he didn’t even say a word to me. I felt really upset. I mean, after all of that talking, he doesn’t say a word to me in person?

But I do catch him glancing or staring at me a lot… Like once when I was talking to my Economics teacher, I from the corner of my eye I noticed he was staring at me the whole time I was talking to the teacher. My crush will pretend to look at something, when his eyes are really on me. He looks in my general direction a lot. I’ll glance at him, and he’ll quickly look away the moment we have eye contact. Maybe he’ll hold his gaze for two or three seconds, then turn to talk to someone. I honestly don’t know if it’s all in my head or if he really does feel something for me.

In the lunch line, I’ll be standing right there, and he’ll look at me for a second, then turn to talk to someone else. He approaches other girls with a lot of confidence. It really p*sses me off when he does so. Sometimes in line he’ll stand, like, really close to me. I’ll admit it, I get jealous even when he talks to his guy friends. =( guilty… He’s himself around his friends and other people [really loud, sarcastic, funny], and when I’m around, even though he never approaches me. But when I’m sitting next to him in class or something he’ll go all quiet.

When I text him stuff like “Hey what's up?” or anything like that, he never replies. But once I texted him about his opinion on this game, and he finally texted back. We sent messages back and forth about the game for a couple minutes, but it wasn’t a very long conversation. The other night I sent him another message saying “hey, you never text me back or talk to me at school, and it breaks my heart.” I tried being kind of lighthearted and not-serious about it, but I never heard from him.

There were a couple incidents at the beginning of the school year where a friend and elementary school classmate of his kept asking me who I liked and stuff. He was sitting right there, like he asked her to ask me. And some of his other friends would come up to me at random times saying that he liked me. I ignored it, thinking that they were just being idiots, but after all this time, I think it’s true.
