buy an ankle brace. That will help support your ankle. Then you can do exercises that involve upper torso. Such as gym or swimming. Make sure you stick to a program: arm day, shoulder day, chest and back... You can also do hamstring curls but i wouldn't reccomend leg extensions as they put pressure on your knee ligaments. Otherwise pick a sport or hobby that doesn't use the ankles like kayaking

Any lower extremities-injury will stop most of your physical activity. I recommend just focus on diet and being in a caloric deficit till the injury is healed. If you really want to move around though, swimming is pretty low impact, so you might try it.

Define fit?
Are you lifting weights or doing cardio?I'd shift My diet to a healtier alternative for the duration of the injury on top of doing the brace with altered work outs.
Swimming can be a good thing for rehab and for exercise while you heal.
Put a brace on. Use machines instead of free weights. Have a spotter or constant assistant.
