Music is a no no it doesn't distract you while running it just let's you know how long you very been running because you will be able to tell how many minutes the song was. The best way to do it is just personal thoughts, self reflections, thinking about important or interesting things etc you will lose track of time.

Music. Also change the route you are running and run with someone else. Start running with someone who runs 2x the distance.
Maybe watch t. v. if you have a t. v. next to your running machine. I find it helps me when I am trying to distract myself from running.

well I listen to music ANNNNDDD day dream lol.
Run with a friend. Me and a broworker would do that twice a week and wound up putting in 3-6 miles a session without realizing it.
