Would you eat ant infested cookies?

I got into the habit of hiding my cookies and chocolate etc. in the conservatory in winter so I just kept doing it and yesterday put my oatmeal cookies in there... completely forgetting the pretty much Mediterranean weather we're having here now and completely forgetting about the existence of ants... idiot...

So I went to get an oatmeal cookie and saw a few ants crawling in the cookie bag, pretty nasty, so I brought the cookie bag into the house, and pulled the cookies out and the bag was swarming with ants. Ants were dropping from the cookies and from the bottom of the bag, and when I separated the cookies there were ants crawling between them.

I gave the cookies a good shake and then I ate them anyway. Just wondering what people here think about that?

I've eaten cereal with dead ants floating in the milk sometimes (were in the cereal box), even still alive flailing like mad. I tried to avoid them but every now and then I'd get an ant in the spoon and it was just easier to eat them.

To be fair I shook most of them off first lol. I hate wasting food and they're delicious oatmeal cookies so I wasn't too eager to throw them away because of stupid ants really.

this is probably the weirdest question I've ever seen on here, and I will admit, I did laugh quite a bit at it. I just like the fact that you're asking AFTER you ate the cookies. hahaa

PERSONALLY I wouldn't want to eat any food I knew ants had been on... knowing they had probably done..ahem... their 'business' on the food, and knowing that I could be consuming dead ants/ parts of ants with my food :l If I was on a deserted island and I found some ant covered cookies, sure I'd eat them... but other than that, nope :)

My sister did once. We had cookies in the house and she didn't notice they were crawling with ants because they were absolutely miniscule and the same color as the cookies =\ We promptly threw them away.

Honestly, I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem eating bugs/worms/whatever so long as I never knew what it was. The thought is what kills me, not the actual taste... unless it's disgusting.

I've eaten ants before. When I was a toddler I ate them, when I was a kid I ate them and every now and then I take a little nibble as well ^_^ I don't think it's that nasty.

Haha awesome... you better not be eating any lady bugs though. Gosh I hate it when I see a dead lady bug, now THEY are divine looking. Last week I was beneath a tree and felt something land on the top/back of my ear and I thought it was just a leaf or something. I quickly grabbed at it and it was a ladybug, but luckily I grabbed it without killing it, so I put it on the ground and made sure not to step on it as I proceeded to water the plants.

Here's the bad bit though, after watering the plants, I had forgotten about the ladybug on the ground by the hose port, and just as I got there I remembered it, but too late... I had stood on it! Just lightly though as it was at the point that I remembered about it that I happened to tread where it was. It was still alive but it's armour was spread open and it's wings protruding. I felt awful! I don't know if they can repair themselves like worms and the like...

sigh tragic story. I've killed a grasshopper once by accident and felt awful. Well I doubt they feel pain so it's alright. *hugs*.

Ants and spiders tend to carry less infection than say flies and roaches, so you're fine. I would have eaten them also.

That said, I think, Sir, you are getting into a habit that would make you fat, so I would drop it for that reason. Also learn how to properly seal a plastic bag with a sliding lock (Ziploc type) - if you do it right, no ants would get in

I'm guessing you're not a believer in the "5 second" rule, yuck. People do eat ants in some areas of the world an consider them a delicacy of sorts, so to each his own I suppose. Just know that all that shaking off you did probably still didn't remove all the ant larvae they laid on the cookies. You might want to consider becoming a contestant of Fear Factor.

As for Fear Factor... I dunno'. I have awful vertigo, get dizzy as F when I look down from height, and I don't like touching never mind eating anythin' slimey (which is why the ants are okay) lol

I actually googled "can I eat cookies after ant swarm" and this came up. Very helpful information. I had a identical situation this morning. I bought Russian condensed milk cookies yesterday that are quite expensive. Are two last night and woke up this morning to find a swarm of ants inside the cookie container. I washed them off one by one and let them dry in a safe place. I got on Google immediately and here I am. As I have been reading the replies on here I started slamming a couple cookies without thinking lol

Dang the answer from that Doug guy in the link sort of humanised ants to me, and I feel really bad about casually crushing 10 to 15 of them when they were trying to get back onto the cookies I had just shook them off of. I went crazy and just started crushing them - something which I try to refrain from doing on the principal of being a decent person. I sometimes say that the power is in having the opportunity to kill but choosing not too, and I ended up having to contradict that with the ant

But sometimes I like to watch ants real close. I even put my head right up next to them and watch them as they drink spilled coffee or feast on a bit of apple. I love the way they move, and if you look at them real close... they're quite divine looking. I'm obsessed with animals - I can pretty much find any animal cute, see I even just earlier today as I was watching a few ants drink from a stream of spilled (warm) coffee, thought to myself that they looked kinda' cute.

I'm the same as you. But ants are one of the few exceptions, together with wasps, mosquitoes and flies.

At least if it's an ant infestation, if it's a few I'll leave them alone.

Unless you're putting your hands in your mouth, or nose, that's not really a problem. As far as kissing goes, I suggest being a little more conscious of who you're kissing, lol. The point is taking in less germs than necessary.
