For those of you who love to bake, here are some valentine’s day treats that are delicious and perfect for this coming occasion.
1. Strawberry Cake
What you’ll need for the cake batter:
2/3 cup strawberry puree (about 1 1/3 c whole strawberries, fresh or frozen, thawed) (160mL)
3 cups All Purpose flour (360g)
2 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk (120mL)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5mL)
1 cup butter (salted or unsalted) (240g)
2 cups sugar (400g)
2 whole eggs
4 egg whites
What you’ll need for buttercream topping:
- vanilla buttercream (white)
- fresh sliced strawberries for garnish
- excess strawberry puree for garnish
- wilton #21 Tip
- piping bag
Methode:
Whisk together all purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Leave that a side.
Combine the strawberry purée with milk and vanilla extract
In a stand mixer, cream the butter, add in sugar and slowly add in the two egg yolks and egg whites. Then add the flour mixture and strawberry purée to that.
Divide the cake batter in two pans.
Bake at 350 F 40 to 45 minutes.
Once the cakes have cooled, frost in between and crum coat the whole cake.
Put the cake in fridge for it to firm.
Finally decorate the cake with buttercream by making roselettes. Set the cut out strawberries at the bottom and the top of the cake.
2. Candy Apples
What you will need:
Clean apples
Wooden sticks
4 cups of sugar
8 ounces of water
1 tablespoon of red food coloring
Methode:
Grease an aluminium foil
Insert the wooden sticks into the apples
In a pan stir the sugar and water at medium heat
Add in the red food coloring
Place a thermometer in the pan
Let boil until the thermometer reaches 280 F
Dip the apples in the mix and then set them in the aluminium foil
Leave the apples to dry at room temperature
3. Heart Shaped Brownies
What you will need:
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 cup of Nutella
1/2 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1/3 cup of butter
3/4 cup of flour
Melting chocolate (red, pink, and white)
Methode:
Mix the sugar and butter
Add in the eggs
Add in vanilla extract and nutella
Lastly add in the flour
Mix until you've reached the right consistency
Grease a cake pan and spread the brownie batter in it
Let it bake for 350 F for 30 minutes
Once baked and cooled, carve the brownie into heart shapes and dip each one in a different color of melted chocolate.
Drizzle the melted chocolate on top of each brownie for decoration.
