I think using Women's day (March 8th) as an excuse, you could take the chance to meet some really smart modern day women who have made amazing accomplishments in their field of science, if not revolutionizing it, and along the way have broken traditional sterotypes of what a 'female scientist' should act, look like or be. A planetary scientist, Carolyn Porco has been on the forefront of cutting edge research for decades. Teams supervised by Carolyn have been responsible for some of the most iconic photographs of Earth and other planets from space. She was even responsible for the discovery of one of Neptune’s rings!

Heather Williams is a faculty member at the University of Manchester, and her research interests are Physics and BioMedical Physics. An avid STEM ambassador, Heather is also the director of Science Grrl, an organization dedicated to celebrating women in science and developing programs and events that encourage young girls to pursue scientific careers. She tweets great information about education and gender issues within the science fields.

Sylvia McLain is a scientist with an interesting history – she has been a field biologist, an inorganic chemist, and a physicist! Her life outside of science is quite diverse as well – Sylvia has taught English in China, worked in a fishery and been a bicycle mechanic! She is currently a biochemistry research fellow and a blogger for Guardian Science. With a background like that, her tweets are sure to be fascinating!

Jennifer Rohn is a biologist from the US, and currently runs a cell biology lab at University College London.
