Is that kinda strong or is it just "meh"?
Help me win my argument against my brother and boyfriend XD
It entirely depends on the technique used to raise the weight. Please google these terms: biceps curl, deltoid fly, front dumbbell raise.
And reply back with the form which matches the most with your technique.
Suppose you raised it without bending your elbows (whether front or side, doesn't matter), then it would be an impressive feat for you. But if you raised it while bending elbows, and using all the strength of your shoulder and bicep muscles, then it's just "meh".
I did the front dumbell raise once, when I first picked it up, and then I did 4 bicep curls.
What muscles do you use to do the rest? So I used my shoulders and biceps to do this bicep curls? This is actually getting me interested in weights haha. There's way more to it than I ever thought
I am glad you are liking it! There are a lot of ways to use weights, like hitting one muscle specifically (as in bicep curls) or doing compound exercises (dumbbell row etc).
Weight lifting is simply the best kind of exercise there is! You will gain strength, confidence, stamina, won't get tired easily, and overall positive feeling in life! Oh, your immunity is increased too. The only drawback is that guys become obsessed by it, and end up doing too much of it, without thinking about the future ill effects.
Girl, you did one rep of front dumbbell raise with 12 kg, without bending your elbows? If yes, then you are stronger than most girls (and beginner guys) out there!
And 4 bicep curls is also impressive enough for you! To compare, a first time teenage boy won't be able to do 2 bicep curls with 12 kg.
I would say, go and hit the gym, not only you will make quick progress, you will love it more and more. Also your brother and bf won't be able to mess with you! Hahaha
Thanks, I've genuinely got an interest in it now because of your answer. I really never knew the benefits of it or things that go into it, I thought guys just did it solely to get buff and nothing else haha... well most do it for that partly still.
Anyway, yea I'm getting in to this now. I just have to keep it secret from my boyfriend because he'll get scared I want to be a body builder or something haha.
For someone who hasn't lifted weights, it's impressive.. you've been doing something to build strength, though, right?
No, nothing at all. I think I'm naturally strong because when I was around 3 my family always tell stories of how I would carry these big mutlipack cartons of milk and wouldn't let people help me. Most kids can't do that, let alone at age 3. I don't look strong, I'm 5'1 and small, so I think if I trained I could lift a lot more... I just don't want to because I don't like that super muscular look on women much.
Maybe you're always doing things like carrying the milk? That adds up over time, just as good as lifting weights in a gym.

I'd agree with your boyfriend and brother, especially since you couldn't do a real full set with either hand.
But it was my first ever time trying? I just saw it and tried it out, never ever done weights before. Isn't it strong for a first timer?
And what's a full set? I'm going to try it lol
Well, you're from eastern Europe , I'm sure you guys are born kinda strong anyways, because I've seen some tiny skinny eastern European girls lift up crazy heavy things like a couch and fridge which proved me right lol, I even asked one when she carried my fridge upstairs if it's her eastern European blood and she agreed with me lol. It's something in the water...
Considering that you are a girl and that u haven't lifted weights that's pretty damn impressive...(ashamed to say this now :p but) when I started to workout I could lift 5 kg hehe😅 so hell yea I'm impressed
12 kg is hardly 30 pounds. you can pick up a little kid who weighs only 30 pounds don't you?
Yea but one hand and I did that bicep curls thing
I would agree with the bros. I've seen women easily lift 20kg no issue.
12 kg is nothing. Once ur at 15 pounds doing sets of 30 bicep curls, then ur good
Nah, that's nuthin' bruh
Come on lol, my first time ever? This is making me real competitive now, and I wanna be able to lift up 15 lol. I'm gonna grow me some mini "girl" biceps lol
Hmmm... 15 ain't nuthin' either :D
I think it is kind of strong, good job!
