I really don't get it, what's the logic behind that? Even some of my roommates walk around barefoot or with only socks and we're messy students. Hell, there could be glass anywhere and there are crumbs all over the place. Besides, it's gross. How can anyone feel comfortable walking around like that unless you vacuum and clean the floor every day?
I'm totally with you OP.
I can't walk around barefoot at all, it hurts, my feet are so soft - probably because I don't walk around barefoot! Not to mention that I hate the look and feel of dirty soles.
It makes me cringe when I see people walking around without shoes - dirty feet, stepping on something, dry and cracked heels. Hate it. I always wonder why they do it.
I always wear slippers except in my bedroom - I have very thick light carpets - and even in my own bathroom I'm always on my tip-toes.
I'm always surprised at how many people don't actually take care of their feet. Just looking around in public, people's feet are disgusting and unkept. A guy once told me: "You can tell a lot about a woman by the way her feet are kept, because nobody really looks at or cares about feet so if a girl takes good care of her feet, you know she's taking care of everything else and generally she has great hygiene."
I've seen people walk around a shopping wall and in the street without shoes. In a public facility I think that's completely unacceptable. But if they want to do so in their own house, then be it I suppose.

I always walk around barefoot or with socks on in my house. Don't know why it would be disgusting since we clean the floors once a week with both a mop and a vacuum. And if we make a mess (crumbs, food in general or just garbage) we always clean it up immediately. I think it's more disgusting to walk around with shoes on inside, since that brings in the dirt from outside and spreads it around everywhere. Using socks is to me the same as using slippers.
If the floors are clean, I just don't know why anyone would find it weird or gross. It's normal to walk around barefoot or with socks on inside where I'm from (but only at home, not at school or out in public or anything). Wearing shoes inside would be considered rude, unless it's for a party or some special occasion.
Because everyone wasn't raised the same as you.. It's a bit strange that it bothers you so much that other people's shoes are off. If it makes them happy leave them be. You may have a foot phobia though because I've never heard of someone who can't even walk on the floor with just socks atleast. And I've seen dorms they're not as dirty as you make them seem. Maybe you all should clean up more often instead of simply putting on shoes and walking over the glass, crumbs, hazard tape lol the better question is, 'how can people live with floors that dirty and pretend its normal because they have on shoes?'
You sound like you need to find a better livibg situation pronto before you catch something, it sounds disgusting.
Why do people walk around wearing shoes?
I'm almost always barefoot. I can go days without ever putting on shoes. I like going barefoot and hate having shoes on longer than is necessary. I wear shoes to go to work, to drive, to do something particularly dangerous, and sometimes I put them on in the winter if I go outside.
At one time I even drove and went to stores and restaurants barefoot. That used to be fairly common but you never see it any more.
Bottom line is that I go barefoot just because I like it. Plus it's a hassle to put them on when there is no good reason to. Going barefoot allows you to feel the earth under your feet. Wearing shoes all the time would be like wearing gloves all the time and not being able to feel anything directly.
I go for walks late at night and even jog in complete dark barefoot. I never worry about stepping on broken glass or anything else.
I hate being barefoot, the ground is pretty dirty... I keep my house clean of course, but your feet will pick up absolutely everything, especially if you have a pet... I do wear socks around the house since that covers the cleanliness bit for me and I feel more comfortable in socks.

I walk around barefoot since I was a kid. I don't think my mom bought me shoes unless it was an occasion because babies just grow right out of them. Then when I wore flip flops and shoes around the house my lazy ass sister, who couldn't be bothered to get her own pairs at old navy or target etc would always take them lose them, wear them out or break them altogether. In a dorm, if my university's dorms weren't set up like they are (which our dorms are apartment suits with our own showers and stuff) then I would wear shoes because I don't believe in getting menegitis. Other than that I think barefoot is comfortable if you clean your floors regularly, wash your feet and it doesn't make you cold.
Feet are a quicker to clean than socks. ;)
Jokes aside, I just prefer the freedom of it.
As long as the house isn't too dirty, I just make sure I wash my feet before heading to bed or the like. And if my feet are getting dirty to a high degree from walking around the house, it usually means it's time to clean.
If you think your feet get dirty at home, try backpacking in Thailand! We did a camping trip there, and it seemed like no matter what I did, the soles of my feet were permanently brown with dirt/sand/etc. You just got used to it and prioritized having them clean when you went to bed, and had them cleaned before having a massage.I never walk around barefoot. I always at least wear socks except when in bed. I just don't feel comfortable being completely barefoot. But some people enjoy the feeling of their feet being able to breathe, moving their toes around, and/or like showing off their toes. I say you should only walk barefoot in your own home because you know if it's clean or not.
Oh my God! Being barefooted... I can't bare it! It makes my skin crawl. I think it's so unhygienic to walk around with no socks on. It's disgusting when people have all bits from the floor stuck to their feet! Don't care if people think I'm weird, I just don't do it. I wear slippers a lot as well (when my boyfriend hasn't nicked them). The boot type slippers, so comfy! I put them through the washing machine regularly.
I guess its just comfortable or natural to them. I personally love my slippers but a BIG pet peeve of mine is when people wear their shoes or slippers (more so the shoes) on their bed.
I don't see the issue inside the house. I don't understand people that struggle to keep their shoes on in public. Saw someone roll out of a toilet stall with no shoes...WTF? Recently was on a plane on some dudes bare feet was popped over the empty seat next to him...
I can't stand to be barefoot (yuck)me being barefoot happens very rarely, I even bathe with slippers on. I can't stand the thought that people walk all over the place where so many germs are then for me to put my feet on it! That's so gross (yuck) :( I mean to each his own, I understand that everybody will have their own opinions but for me, I can't stand it and I can't stand to see it either... 5 stars!
People really feel passionately about the most stupid things.
Yeah, that seems rather grotesque in my opinion. I'm very sensitive about that sort of thing.
I wear house slippers.Hmm I usually walk around my house barefoot. I don't have any foot diseases and the floor gets vacuumed regularly. I wouldn't walk barefoot at anyone else's home because I feel it's disrespectful. I would walk around with socks though.
I also realized I walk barefoot around my yard because I like feeling the earth under my feet. I feel more connected in a weird way. I have really tough feet due to always being barefoot outside though so it isn't like I'm getting cuts or anything like that.well when I'm at home, I'm barefoot 50% of the time. Your living area must be pretty gross for you to feel that way
It's just more comfortable in my opinion. I'm hot natured so I rarely wear socks when I'm at home and why would I wear shoes when I'm trying to relax? My floors are clean and I don't clean them everyday.
I've always found it weird when people wear shoes/slippers inside the house at all times...even when it's warm out.
I love going barefoot...especially in the summer when I can feel the grass on my feet : )I rarely wear shoes. Only when I'm driving & out in public.
I keep a clean house. No crumbs on my floors.
I do have to watch out every time I go outside so I don't step on a scorpion or spider.yeah I agree with you that's disgusting, I don't like doing that at all unless I'm heading for the shower.
Where in the hell do you live where you have pieces of glass and nail-like crumbs all over the floor? lol
it's more comfortable? wearing shoes seems really strange inside if I am at home, plus a hygiene perspective I think it's cleaner to have a no shoes policy in inside than it is to walk in all the crap from the street.
i would only walk around barefooted at home or at office (close proximity within my desk ). the feet feels light and airy , some shoes just hurt the feet if we wear them for too long
i agree, barefoot is gross. socks are OK imo. I like wearing socks.
I love being barefoot! It's just so comfortable, I hate my feet being constricted by shoes and socks all the time.
