Why do people take Xanax recreationally?

Does it annoy anybody else that people sell benzo's on the street and pay good money for them and say they wanna take them to "get high"? Personally I have severe panic attacks and Xanax has a purpose, for one, and that's not it. Secondly, I've only taken a xanax a couple times without being really anxious (at my mom's request) and they just make you calm and a bit sleepy. Kids at school act like they're so cool cause they have some zannies and they "get high on them" and it PISSES ME OFF. It's a sedative, not a hallucinogen or speed or anything. Anyone who says they get effed up off xanax is a liar. Does anyone else find this stupid/annoying?

i take xanax and take it a little more than prescribed, but do not get messed up with it. there were a few times in my life years ago when I was going through really bad times, and took a bunch of them and I acted stupid, and it basically makes you forget. like I went on a date once and I walked there and went to the wrong place and then started drinking and forget all about my date. and I wound up blacking out at the lounge. I left went home went to bed, and I really did not remember anything. and I know people who abused it like crazy. our youth today has become demoralized mainly due to social media, and the internet and have trouble coping in this reality. not that I'm promoting it but life is hard, and confusing and most people are unhappy with their lives and selves. so they escape. the amount of addicts in this world is insane probably in the tens of millions in the usa alone-whether its prescription drugs, alcohol, cocaine, crack, spped, ecstasy, LSD, inhalers, you name it people won't admit it but most people are unhappy with themselves. even celebs who have millions and can have anything they want OD. just goes to show you that material things don't really make one happy.

Well, you do get pretty banged up on them. I don't really care for the effect they have, so I don't mess with them. I think the frustration with your peers is just a by-product of being young. Everybody thinks they're so cool for drinking or using this or that drug. When I was like 25 I was dating an 18 year old who was just a few months out of high school, and it ultimately didn't work out because I couldn't stand hearing the stories of how she and her friends "got so wasted last night", like it was the coolest thing ever. When you get a little older you don't wear it like a badge of honor, you just have fun, and there's no novelty factor to it.

I never understood it either. I've never taken Xanax but I've taken Lortab before (after I had a tooth pulled). I've heard of people abusing Lortab and I'm just like... all it ever did was make me sleepy lol. People are weird.

Why people do any drugs or drink alcohol? For the effect it gives them. Not that hard to figure out.

Just because you use them for one thing and have an opinion about them doesn't mean that other people in different situations feel the same way or need to give a shit about what you think, to put it bluntly.

And yes, Xanax can get you into a buzz. Take more than your prescribed dosage and see how much of a lie it is, if you'd like lol

I am full aware of what xanax can do to you, considering I've had a prescription for about a year and a half now. I'm not saying everyone should feel the way I do about them? I actually asked if anyone else did? My point was, you don't get "high" or effed up on xanax, that's just the truth. You get a sleepy, content feeling. My problem is when people say they get turnt with a couple xanax. More like an early bedtime.

And "high" doesn't mean hyper or anything like that. It just describes the feeling of abnormality, whether it's from taking a stimulant or a sedative. Weed, depending on the strand, can be one or the other, yet in both instances it would still be referred to as "high".

So yes, you can get high off these.

They're not liars, but unlike you they don't stick to their prescribed dosage. Take a few more and you'll get pretty knocked out in a way that some people really like.

I've taken up to 6 milligrams of Xanax and I'm about 100 pounds so that's a lot. Like I said in a previous comment I know what they do to you, they make you feel content and very sleepy. Not high, fucked up, turnt, etc, like people say, and that's what bothers me.

That's not really going to get you to the drool phase and that's what people are after. It gets you "high" in a similar way to opiates, people on heroin get very content and sleepy too you know.

well I guess I see what you mean. But people act like xanax is a party drug and it's not, at least I really wouldn't consider it one. I'll repeat what I said to another person; saying you get "high" off of xanax is like saying you're getting high on tequila. When I think high, I think tripping on molly or smoking weed etc
