MyTake on Memorial Day

LoganM

Hello everyone...hope everyone is having a good day.

Memorial Day is coming up and I wanted to let everyone know my opinion.

Many of my friends view Memorial Day as honoring those that have fallen and their memories that are cherished. The fallen soldiers are to be honored and remembered because it takes a great deal of courage to put your life on the line for your country.

For me, I view it the same way. Memorial Day is a time to remember the fallen, and to pay tribute to them. It's a day of honoring and respecting. I am a Marine and I'm still alive and, for the almost four years that I have been in service, I have seen heartache, anger, resentment, etc towards the military. I have seen flags laying on my brothers' coffins. When I get told "thanks for your service" during Memorial Day or Veterans' Day, I usually tell them "thank you but this is the day to honor the fallen, not the living."

Now, I know there's many people on here and in the world who view the military as a bad idea and so on. I'll be honest right now, but if there was another terrorist attack and there weren't any soldiers to defend this country, I guarantee you those people would not be counter-attacking those terrorists. The United States is not the only country in the world whose military is prevelant. P.S., the world is not in good shape and you can't escape the tension that the world is having. So when you tell me and other soldiers that you don't like the military, think about what it would be like to not have the military and have many countries try and overtake the U.S. I guarantee that your mouth would not be flying insults right and left.

In conclusion, the people I mentioned above, the uneducated people (yes they are uneducated, even if they have a degree), are the people who need to have an understanding of what we do. This country had multiple wars, lots and lots of them, for a couple hundred years to get to where we are today. There is not and will not be peace for the world EVER and we need to get used to that. There is always some country or ruler, etc. that wants the upper hand.

Anyway, I hope you all have a good Memorial Day and realize what this day really symbolizes.

Sincerely,

Logan M.
