What to do if ICE comes knocking on your door

First do not open the door. ICE will not have a warrant and no right to enter your dwelling but they have little oversight and may force their way in once the door is open. Ask them to identify themselves and if they have a warrant to enter the premises.

An administrative warrant of removal from immigration authorities is not enough.

If they want to enter your premises they need a warrant signed by a judge. If they say they have a warrant ask them to slip it under the door or through the crack to make sure it is a proper warrant not an administrative warrant.

Look in the top corner of the order to see it is issued by a court and signed by a judge. Only a court/judge warrant allows them entry into your home. Administrative DHS and ICE warrants do not allow them entry into your private dwelling.

In all other cases, keep the door closed. State: “I do not consent to your entry.”
If agents force their way in anyway, do not attempt to resist. If you wish to exercise your rights, state: “I do not consent to your entry or to your search of these premises. I am exercising my right to remain silent. I wish to speak with a lawyer as soon as possible.”
