Yes it can. It isn't a direct connection, but like others have said, it does cause problems. When mental problems happen, physical problems will too. You'll be alright just hang in there. I know what its like. Almost 5 years with a girl, almost proposed 3 times, and she left me for my best friend.

I agree with Belleza. The breakup doesn't actually harm your body. But the stress, anxiety, worry, sadness can affect your mental state. Not being able to sleep, or eat can also come into play. So It's not the actual heart ache pain that does anything, but it's the effect of the breakup.
