i'd say... something more original... I mean flowers and chocolates are really romantic and all... if you want flowers try roses, especially the ones that are big but haven't opened yet... but to really blow her away, give her something unique like an orchid... or something realllly pretty. Chocolates are really romantic in a heart shaped red container... with a bow...
But to really knock her socks off, you'd want to try, something original like... maybe something like food you did yourself, or else a funny drawing of the two of you... or else... something really meaningful... you could do a small act of a proporsal on a day which is convenient... but not like her birthday or something... just an ordinary day... get down on one knee.. and recite the words... get her to say I do... and give her a small jewelery box, with a handmade friendship ring. or maybe a really cute "fav character" badge...so you can laugh.. and then go I love you or something.. you just have to understand... girls are mainly for the feeling... rather than the usual go for the extraordinary. the skys the limit. Show your appreciation.. If you write her a song... don't go into really deep meanins and the like.. say it simple and in a pathetic way.. Girls love cheesy stuff sometimes... if your girl is reallly romantic...that is.
If you are not really girlfriend and bf... I would say chocolate would make me think twice.. so be careful there... and roses are too serious too... if you want try giving something pretty, and smells sweet but doesn't mean that much... like tulips, carnation, sunflower, daisies... or a small bunch of pretty ones too... but still a girls would think twice... depends on her character of course.14 Reply
Asker+1 yThanks, all of you for so many answers! What I'd really like to know is will giving her chocolates really mean, "I love you". It's too soon to say something so powerful. I don't want to scare her away but just do something really romantic. Please let me know.
Asker+1 yOh, I didn't have time to read all of your answer. Now, I'm worried about making a mistake.
- +1 y
Yeah... roses definitely are too much... but chocolates are ok, if its in a normal wrapper... (dont go for a red box wiht hearts and bows there) and stick a note like, "YOu are soooo sweet!" or "sPecially for you!"... romantic for a tom boy... hmm... how bout showing up to each and everyone of her games... try to get an autograph of her fav. sports person or something... or else take her out to see a match... that's romantic.. You don't have to stress that its a date!
Asker+1 yThanks

I think it all depends on the situation and the girl. One of the sweetest gifts I ever got was just a temporary one. I was in the hospital over night after a car accident and the guy I was dating came to the hospital and brought me the bear mascot of his favorite team I'd had made for him for Christmas. He said I needed something to hold on to and he couldn't stay with me, but the bear could instead. It was soo adorably sweet and caring that I pretty much melted. He showed that he understood me (that I was scared and upset) and that he cared about me enough to want to make it better. Anything you can get a girl that says you know her and care enough about her to go to the trouble of finding something she really wants, needs or loves. Chocolate can be a sweet gift, but for me it's nice because the guy I'm dating will bring me chocolate when he knows I've had a bad day to cheer me up- it's the gesture not the chocolate itself. Dame with flowers- if you get me my favorite flower to celebrate something it means a lot more than if you bring me generic flowers because you think you should. You can bring me a sandwich at work and it's a nice gesture if you know I had no time to make my lunch- it's all about being thoughtful- what would make her smile? Find whatever it is and give her that.

If you are a chocolate you are the sweetest, if you are a Teddy Bear you are the most huggable,
If you are a Star you are the Brightest, and since you are my “FRIEND” you are the “BEST”!!!!!!!!!
Asker+1 yWow, I like that yet but just recently I gave her, albeit via sms which someone on this site pretty much called me a cad for using texting, a love poem. I was worried she'd be scared off but she's still not looking for the exit. Just yesterday I told I didn't see the stain on her blouse because it was more important to me to look into her eyes. She gave a slight moan. She still isn't looking for the door. I think I've said enough for now but I'll keep your idea in mind, thanks
+1 yI can buy myself chocolates. And while I can buy myself flowers, it just isn't the same when it you buy them for yourself. It's such a simple and sweet gesture.
But personally, I'd rather have a guy make or write something for me. It's the ultimate in creative gestures. However, that is not a strength for some guys, so flowers are still a very romantic thing to do.
But lots of women (like myself) are trying to be good around this time of year, so maybe trade a sampler of chocolates into a mini-candy bar of her choice, or something similar. Same meaning, fewer calories! :)04 Reply
Asker+1 yI once wrote her a poem that could not possibly be mistaken for anything other than a romantic gesture. I wasn't sure, except from some of the things she said to me and flirting, if it was too early or too strong. She said nothing about it and has not suggested, "We need to talk.". As the-love-guru do you think it beyond for me to believe I'm not in the 'friend zone'?
- +1 y
So you're saying you wrote her a poem prior to asking her out, or having the DTR? If so, it's a very romantic gesture, but some women need things spelled out for them. If she hasn't responded to the chocolates or the poem you wrote her, she may be holding back with her feelings. Either she's still "feeling" you out and is unsure, or she may have you in a friend zone, but appreciates feeling special. Not right, but women do that on occasion.
I hope it's the former. Best of luck!
Asker+1 yWhat do you mean by, 'having the DTR'? The last time I asked her out for lunch she said, 'soon'. She did not elaborate but had a very nice smile on her face at that moment. She had broke up with a long term boyfriend who controlled her and using her words, "I couldn't think for myself." So I don't push things with her. I'm trying to let her know she's freer with me than with anyone else. I don't remember whether I gave her that poem before or after that 7 hour date she directed.
- +1 y
Defining the relationship. Now, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but usually when you have a lunch date, it means she just wants to be friends. And since she said "soon", it means she was in no rush to get together. If someone wants to be with you, they'll make it a priority. Not a good sign. But like I said before, it's not always accurate.
+1 yNeither of the above can be said to be more romantic as it depends on the context of the situation. As many girls have said, flowers are more of an apologetic gesture whereas on special occasions such as birthdays and valentine's day, they are perfectly acceptable. Chocolates can be bought any time and are a cheap easy gift just to let a girl know you are thinking of them. This however is the gift's downfall as it can make it seem like not much thought was put into the gift so most girls prefer to receive chocolates as an accompanyment to another gift. If you just want to know what is the most romantic gift you can give a girl you have to know her as all girls have different ideas about romance and some prefer actions, some prefer words and some do prefer gifts! The more you know the girl you are buying for, the easier it should be to buy for them. It can be romantic to some just to notice them talking about something they want and surprising them with it later or just thinking about things the girl needs and getting it for them without them asking. Girls like gifts not for the fact that you are spending money on them but because it shows you care about them and depending on how well received the gift is, you can tell how much you know the person and they will see this too and the more you know them, the better suited the gift will be for them and the more romantic it seems.
Basically, flowers on occasions, chocolates as an accompanyment and something special to show you know and care for them00 Reply
I think flowers and chocolates really do suck. It's so cliche. Be original because it'll make her feel really special, after all that's what the present is for right? Making her feel great? So what do you need a present for? You don't. Just make sure you communicate effectively to her. Make her laugh, confide in her and vice versa etc. Try learning the guitar for her, play her a song that YOU write, or learn a language and write that special poem. I can't give you all my secrets but that's a few. Man...I shouldl really start charging for this stuff...

r you WANTING 2 b romantic or friendly? I think the most romantic is an original well thought out gift that proves how much you know her personality and likes and dislikes. think out of the box on this. just b sure it reflects her personality or a memory or inside joke you 2 share.

Asker+1 yI like that.
Most girls love flowers, plus they can flaunt the flowers in front of their envious friends, but the most romantic thing to me, would be cooking a dinner. My reasoning because you can talk and laugh as he makes it and you try to help, but he persists that he his soley making it just for her. Then, as you together wait for it in the oven because you are both starving. After dinner, you cuddle up stuffed on the couch to watch a movie. I think it is romantic, yet simple. If you really wanted, you could throw the flowers you got her on the table in a vase.

+1 yFlowers, chocolates are not that great...in my opinion, then poems, if they aren't sappy are alright. Get her something she can display to others. This is why girls like flowers, because they can show other people, 'hey someone cares about me enough to buy me these flowers'.
You can also buy her a massage (which can be cheaper than some flower arrangements...and if she is a working woman she'd appreciate it, trust me!) and pair that with chocolates. I like things that I can either keep for an extended period of time (minimum 3 days), or that have some utility.10 Reply
+1 yI find flowers more romantic! Honestly, anything from the heart. Not just something because " its what's expected from a guy" But something that had thought put into it. But chocolate can always accommodate...and poems are really sweet too. That would mean a lot. I have always loved teddies so that could work too. Ahh its all a pretty wide range. Even a little necklace, or ring, or bangle. It doesn't have to be expensive. Heck you could make it yourself. Or a homemade card with a really sweet note inside... Something to make the person know you were thinking of THEM.
10 ReplyFlowers, definitely, chocolates always remind me of something you bring to a friends family around the holidays, ya know? Where as flowers (ESPECIALLY if you know her favorites) are way sweeter because a guy has to kind of leave his element to get them, its one thing walking into where ever and buying chocolates, they are something you can pick up just about anywhere, and can be an after thought (unless they are her favorites, or an inside joke between you or something) whereas flowers require at least some thought (generic grocery-store bouquets don't count :P)

+1 yIn my opinion Chocolates and Flower are the gift you give someone when you forgot.
You run into the drug store or gas station and buy what ever you can find.
Romance is not gifts...Romance is a gesture. You need to be romantic, you need to show love, lust, and appreciation for the person your with.
And I am sorry, but Chocolate and Flowers just don't do it.20 Reply
+1 yawwwww, that's so sweet, you care for her :) buy her smthing from tiffanys. doesn't have to be too expensive, but tiffanys`always the best choice. or flowers, buy her white roses. trust me, either ONE single red rose and a note "I love you" or sh*t loads of white roses and jewellry or if it shouldnt be too expenise, nice chocolates. and summin cheesy.
hope I could help.

Ya get her some breakfast at Tiffany's...... gawd I'm retarded lol

Yh but tiffanys is the ultimate gift. give her some tiffanys and shell give you her heart.
Do you mean "serious" like you are dating and you don't want her to mistake it for a proposal or serious like she is a friend and you don't want her think you are asking her out?
I would say it's cool in a relationship and I might think twice if a guy gave me chocolate that was a friend.
A gift I always loved was perfume. I always found that sexy and romantic. But nice perfume. Not perfume from Walgreens. ;)01 Reply
Asker+1 yI mean 'serious' like it's too early to imply 'I love you'. She's a sports loving tomboy on whom I've yet to smell so much as a drop of perfume.
+1 yI'm a poet and a musician myself, so anything creative would go straight to my heart. I'm not a hugs fan of chocolate, and I'm really picky of the candy bars I'll eat. Rich chocolate and I don't get along. Flowers mess with my allergies. Any guys that can think of something other than those to get to me, will totally score bonus points. A new acoustic guitar would be nice. Haha.

I don't really wear jewelry that much, to be honest. But I'd probably wear a necklace, as long as it wasn't too fancy. Are you buying for me now? Haha.
Hey, JustDance - thanks for the guitar! Hahaha. =)
+1 yit's been said "Flowers say 'I'm sorry' Chocolates say 'I love you'"

+1 yflowers, then poem, then chocolate(I don't like chocolate hehe)
but if I did like chocolates then yes it would be a serious gesture because you give flowers to like your date to prom or a dance but you give chocolates to someone you really really care about :)00 ReplyI've never given a girl flowers or chocolates, unless it was a special occasion, but just for fun hell no, why would you want to do that, the flowers will just die, and the chocolates won't get eaten, its a waist of money. Plus if you do that, you get the oh your so sweet thank you, I just want to be friends. But a nice bottle of wine, or liquor, now we're talking, with a candlelight dinner, that would be better.
00 ReplyNONE. I hate it when men give me the ordinary gifts that takes little to no effort...just going to the store and getting something and basically saying "HERE" and shoving it into my chest. It doesn't really go like that, but in essense, that's the impression I get. Try something a little different, like I framed picture that reminded you of her, or a stuffed animal of an aminal she really likes...something like that. But PLEASE...none of that "chick flick" type of gifts.

+1 yI think the most romantic gesture is giving her something that relates to her. If she's a painter, a book on some new artist might be a good idea. If she's a dancer or just into music, a mix cd you made of some songs you like would be really nice. Try to make it a little personal, it shows you were paying attention to a conversation the two of you had. Flowers and chocolates are nice but it can be very vague, plus you can get them from anywhere. Creativity will go a long way and it's most likely gonna make her smile every time she looks at it and she'll think of you.

+1 yI think flowers are a nice gesture but to me they're just depressing. They sit on my kitchen table for a week and then they die.
I'd like something original. Like if you know the girl and you remember she said her favorite disney character is winnie the pooh then get her a pooh bear stuffy. or a cd of her favorite band. mandarin oranges? whatever will make her smile and then it shows you actually put some effort into it instead of going to safeway on your way to her house.00 Reply
+1 yi think anything that you make would be the best. girls love things that have a lot of thought put into it. Even if it is a stick figure drawing of you two holding hands, anything! if you are artistic, a painting! if you can write, a poem! if you are into sports, bring her to a field and kiss her! I don't know... haha. you don't have to buy her something to romance her :)

+1 yoh wow poems (original ones) have to be number one for me, then flowers and finally chocolate. as matter of fact I see nothing romantic about chocolate whatsoever but to each their own...=]
20 Replymake me supper at your place with flowers and candles...i won't need to make the dishes and I get the flowers afterwards! that's a great gesture that is appreciated...top it off with the chick flick she's been bugging to see!
00 ReplyI would say chocolates its a simple yet romantic thought that's why whilst flowers you re going out 4 dates like coming to pick her out 4 dinner and that's when you thought about it unlike chocolate you jus drop by to say Hello wit a chocolate
00 ReplyFlowers and poems are really romantic! Chocolates aren't so much, but almost all girls have a big sweet tooth! If you combined chocolates with a poem it would be more romantic, though...

Asker+1 yThanks, I'm composing my third poem for her.
+1 ypoems for sure is first... so much more personal... and flowers come before chocolate... but they almost tie... :) anything you give a girl will make her happy, as long as you mean it... and you thought about it a bit... :)
00 ReplyFlowers 1st of course, second maybe a little teddy bear with a poem but the teddy is usually enough but a poem would probably wow it tho ha ha. Chocolates is just something that accompany's the 1st or 2nd but not really necessary.

Asker+1 yThanks :-)
i would love them all ! but what really hits the romantic side is a poem. but only if you write it. it shows you really care about the person. well that's what I think .
00 ReplyIt depends on the person. Make sure she's not allergic to anything first. Then decide whether she prefers to smell things more or eat things more. Flowers are a bit less serious than chocolates, but I really like the poem idea, maybe even a small song or a drawing of something she likes, like a water fountain or a bird (in a frame please). If youget her either flowers or chocolates it's always a sweet gesture if you put a ribbon around it in that's her favorite color. Good Luck.
00 ReplyI wouldn't want chocolates, because I'd eat them. Those fruit bouquets are really adorable. Any gesture of kindness and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated though.
00 ReplyFlowers and chocolates are very romantic. Poems too, but I haven't heard of any guys who've written a serious poem for their girlfriend/special someone yet. Stuffed animals are cute, too! Anything really, as long as it gets your message across. :)
In my opinion, I love chocolates the best. Then flowers, then stuffed animals, then poems.00 Replyi would have to say poems are number one, then making her dinner, then flowers, then chocolate!
