If an ex takes days to reply to a text message?

My ex-bf broke up with me Because he feels he does not love me but wants to keep me in his life. Would still want me to keep hanging out with him (dinner, movie, 4-hour long conversations, etc - am not talking about booty calls here).. Told him no, I needed a little bit of time to heal and be by myself.. He didn't want to accept it and even told me to keep his stuff that I have in my apartment as a reason for me to see him again.. But I was very firm.. After 4 weeks of no contact misery - I caved.. :( I texted him and asked him how is he and we should catch up sometime.. he replied after 4 days with an upbeat reply and saying sorry for the late response Because he was busy blah blah and yes we should catch up anytime...

Question: Why did it take him so long to reply.. ?
