Why did we have to breakup? Was there something we can do?

I just experienced a really hard breakup with my girlfriend.

we both love each other so much, we were thinking of getting engaged so we reached out families.

My family are very supportive but me and her family don’t have a good relation.
they don’t like me for some reason that I don’t know and my girlfriend doesn’t know as well.

I talked with them and met them a couple of times and they were kinda rude and in the end they rejected me.

I tried to talk with them again, but they rejected me again with some silly excuse, so we agreed to breakup as it’s not meant to be.

P. S We can’t get engaged or married without each party family approval

Frankly, if my family didn't like my partner, I would need them to give me a damn good reason to not continue to be with them.

I'm not going to break up with anyone just because they don't like them. Like I said, it would need to be a damn good reason.

Personally, screw what her parents said. Don't let them dictate your life and your happiness.

It’s just we wanted to get engaged to get married and that requires the approval from both sides as it’s a religious and cultural thing for us.

Maybe find out why her parents don’t like you. Or just reject your religious and cultural upbringing.
