Why would a dumper wish the dumpee a happy birthday during no contact?

There’s a part of them that still wants to be nice to you and not be overly cold.


Unless they hate you, they may still have some lingering feelings. But, those lingering feelings weren’t enough for them to want to stay together.


I remember breaking up with a girl and then not cutting things off as much as I should have. She begged if we could still be friends and I said yes but this led to more pain and drama down the road.


I also remember going the other direction with another girl and cutting things off way too hard, blocking her on everything and not communicating at all. Later, after opening up lines of communication, she said it gave her PTSD. I never meant to cause her trauma over the harsh break up. I regret being that cold towards her.


So, what he’s doing sounds like a bit of a middle ground. He’s not cutting you off completely. Or, maybe is sorta is but he thought saying happy birthday would be an exception.
