Out of the Blue, My Ex is coming back nearly full swing?

Hello, people on Gag, My ex and I have been apart for over a year now. I was the one who kinda ended it. We still chit chat (When not arguing) and so forth but I never decided to get back with him. I didn't wanna totally lose him in my life as at least a friend. It has been really a roller coaster ride to this point. Anyways, his birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I am asking here if you think by him being extra nice at this moment in time and then some, could it be he is hoping I will be giving my usual (I did that when in a relationship) gift of love to him that was thing he loved and really could use for he has not worked for a long time and was usually broke? Or could he be really sincere in his actions of "Xtra niceness"? Any help is appreciated and kindly comments. Thanks a bunch!

How “extra” is he being? He might also just be feeling a bit melancholic since his bday is reminding him the old rituals you used to do for him back when you were still together

Such a habit he has been doing all of this with every holiday, special event. I used to send beautiful gifts and useful ones and or Gift cards.
