My boyfriend was manic yesterday and randomly broke up with me, then apologized later that night for being mean to me, what should I do?

Last night he and I were on the phone and the call took a turn when he started comparing our lives and was telling me how he has unintentionally made mistakes in his life before knowing me that he wish he could take back and told me how blessed I was to have my life. He started to get hostile and continuously asked me to get off the phone but I wouldn’t because he seemed like he’d do something irresponsible if I did. I just stayed on the phone listened.
So then in return he broke up with me, said goodbye, vented some more, then hung up in my face when I started to say something. He wasn’t sober during the call either. So I sent a message telling him how I felt and hours later he responds with how he know he treated me horrible and that he appreciated me for staying when he needed me. He said he wasn’t proud of himself and left it at that. I haven’t replied yet, part of wants him to contact me again on his own. I just don’t know how to feel. He really hurt me but I want to understand his state of mind was not well

You're supposed to be his girlfriend, not his counsellor!
People train for several years to be qualified in what he is asking you to do. It is neither fair for, or indeed healthy for either of you.
My advice? Convince him he needs proper psychiatric help. That is the best thing yo can do for him!

That guy obviously has a lot of stuff he needs to figure out. It's better for both of you probably if he's not in a relationship and he can focus on fixing some things with himself.
