Being married to the wrong person is a trap no matter what the internal dynamics are. A traditional wife might give up nine years and eleven months of her prime career development years and get only five years of alimony. A husband or wife can be faithful and a large earner and, if living in a no-fault jurisdiction, get divorced after a decade by an unfaithful spouse and still have to give half of everything and pay open ended alimony.
